PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Harry Hirsch (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Austin Hastings (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hastings comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Another Way To Die kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Harry Hirsch!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Austin Hastings!
The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Roosa Järviläinen and Arvi Lind.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hirsch avoids the head kick by Hastings.
Hirsch thows a body shot but no joy.
Hastings will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Hirsch misses with a low kick.
Hirsch throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Hastings stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Hastings throws a right and a left that Hirsch avoids nicely.
Hirsch lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.


It looks like Austin Hastings has been cut.
Hastings looks gassed!
Hirsch lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Hastings circles away quickly and effectively.
Hirsch fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Hastings uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Hirsch.
Hastings on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Hirsch fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Hastings manages to avoid it.
Hastings misses with a few strikes there.
Hirsch stuffs the takedown attempt from Hastings. Hastings gets slowly back to his feet.
Hirsch tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Hirsch scores with a shot to the body.

Hirsch gets the takedown into side control.

Hastings taking punishment in the form of punches.
Hirsch has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Hirsch lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Hastings down.

Hirsch tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Hirsch is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Hastings knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Hirsch is chipping away with strikes.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hirsch lands a nice forearm strike.
Hastings tries to improve position but can't.
Hirsch landing strikes.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hirsch is staying tight to Hastings's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Hastings is trying to get back to half guard.
Hastings is working to avoid the ground and pound but Hirsch connects with a decent elbow.
Hastings is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Hirsch is controlling him well.

Hirsch swings around for an armbar but Hastings sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Hirsch's guard.
Hastings must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Hastings with a nice head shot there.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Hirsch bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Hastings's guard.

Hirsch seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Hirsch won't allow Hastings to get back to his feet.

Hirsch forces his way into half guard.
Hirsch content to control rather than advance.
Hirsch scores with a couple of good hammerfists.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Hirsch looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Hastings is looking for a sweep. Hirsch is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hirsch looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Hastings with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Hastings pushes Hirsch off and gets back to his feet.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Hirsch, as that shot connected.
Hirsch lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Harry Hirsch dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Austin Hastings's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Hastings tries to hold on but Hirsch pushes him away.
Hirsch is landing with some decent strikes but Hastings is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Hirsch looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

Hirsch is working close to his opponent, looking to work a submission by the looks of things. Oh, he's managed to get a guillotine from mount as his opponent reached up! That looks tiiiiight! Will he tap? YES, he's tapped! Impressive submission by Hirsch!
