The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice body kick from Smith.
Smith scores with a kick to the body.
Smith cracks the inside of Hogan's front leg.
A solid leg kick lands there for Smith.
Smith throws a head kick that looked like it stung.

Smith closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Smith lands in his opponent's guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Smith working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Hogan looks gassed!
Smith trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Smith wants to control from the top but Hogan keeps moving.
Smith has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

It looks like Hulk Hogan has been cut.
Smith wants to pass the guard but Hogan is keeping the position.

Smith postures up in Hogan's guard and throws a big left but Hogan blocks it.
Hogan avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Smith accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Smith thows a big elbow that misses.

Smith working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Hogan's head.
Smith loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Smith throws a strike but Hogan rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Smith lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Hogan!
