PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Oscar Wilder (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ronnie McCarthy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Wilder has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Oscar Wilder!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Ronnie McCarthy!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, Andrew Berry and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McCarthy misses with a head kick.

McCarthy moves into the clinch successfully.

Wilder turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Wilder manages to end up in side control.
McCarthy wants to control but Wilder postures up.
McCarthy is looking for a sweep.
Wilder in side control, throwing shots but McCarthy defends.
Wilder looks up at the clock and then as McCarthy takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Wilder smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
McCarthy tries to improve position but can't.
Wilder is breathing heavily.
Wilder lands a nice forearm strike.
McCarthy sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
McCarthy wants to control but Wilder is keeping busy and won't allow it.
McCarthy is looking to improve his position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
McCarthy is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
McCarthy is trying to stand up here but Wilder is controlling him well.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

McCarthy moves into the clinch.

McCarthy pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Wilder fails to land the takedown.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

McCarthy gets a clinch.

McCarthy is trying to trip Wilder. He has hold of a leg but Wilder is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. McCarthy persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
McCarthy would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
McCarthy controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
McCarthy with a flurry of punches that miss.
McCarthy controls from within his opponent's guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

McCarthy gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

McCarthy changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Wilder looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Wilder tries to improve position but can't.
Wilder might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

McCarthy stands up and beckons Wilder to his feet.

McCarthy shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. McCarthy showed some decent athleticism there.

Well, if McCarthy is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

McCarthy decides to stand up.
McCarthy throws a series of punches but Wilder moves out of range.
McCarthy lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ronnie McCarthy dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


McCarthy will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

McCarthy feints and as Wilder raises his hands in defense, McCarthy changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Wilder has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. McCarthy is working away from the top position though.
McCarthy drops an elbow to the side of Wilder's head.
McCarthy not doing much here.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

McCarthy is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

McCarthy decides to stand up.
McCarthy lands a really nice looking cross but Wilder seems unphased.
McCarthy tries to clinch up.
McCarthy misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Oscar Wilder has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ronnie McCarthy.
McCarthy shoots in for a double leg but Wilder sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

McCarthy will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Wilder is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in McCarthy's half guard.

McCarthy is defending against the submission attempts here by Wilder.

Wilder is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and McCarthy defends it well.

McCarthy is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
McCarthy is trying to control but can't.
McCarthy preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.
McCarthy wants to control but Wilder is keeping busy and won't allow it.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
McCarthy slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
McCarthy throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
McCarthy wants to sweep but no luck.
Wilder thows a big elbow that misses.
McCarthy manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
McCarthy is landing with some decent strikes but Wilder is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ronnie McCarthy showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Wilder is looking for a sweep. McCarthy is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with McCarthy in particular looking to stall.
Wilder tries to get to full guard but McCarthy has control of the leg.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Wilder is looking to control McCarthy's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Wilder avoid being mounted?

McCarthy shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Wilder sprawls well. Wilder wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. McCarthy gets slowly back to his feet.
McCarthy circles away from the clinch attempt.

Wilder tries to clinch but fails miserably
and McCarthy makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.

McCarthy tries to kick Wilder off but Wilder keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

McCarthy tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Wilder has advanced to mount. Uh oh.
McCarthy throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing.

McCarthy regains half guard.
Wilder wants to lay and pray for a moment but McCarthy keeps working.
McCarthy is trying to maintain the position but Wilder is very close to passing his half guard.
Wilder missing with the ground and pound from half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Oscar Wilder showed his dominance in that final round.
I think McCarthy has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
