Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Phil Brooks (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ashot Agopyan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Agopyan has chosen Aram Asatryan-Hay Es Du as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Phil Brooks!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ashot Agopyan!
The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, David Schapiro and John Kavanagh.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Brooks closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Agopyan to the mat! Agopyan manages to get full guard.
Brooks wants to control from the top but Agopyan keeps moving.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Agopyan is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Agopyan utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Brooks drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Brooks jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Agopyan can do anything to dispel that myth.
Brooks wants to control from the top but Agopyan keeps moving.
Agopyan is looking to stand up but Brooks isn't so interested in that idea.
Brooks lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Agopyan shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Brooks but Brooks pushes him off and we're back to square one.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Brooks is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Brooks gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Agopyan counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Brooks's guard now.

Agopyan got a little sloppy there for a moment and Brooks has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Agopyan has managed to get both his arms back between Brooks's legs - danger averted.

Brooks has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Agopyan is fighting to break Brooks's control of his arms but Brooks is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Brooks pulls Agopyan in close to his closed guard and prevents Agopyan from doing any damage or advancing position.

Agopyan really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Brooks. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Brooks wants to sweep but no luck.

Brooks looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Ashot Agopyan showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Brooks moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Brooks holds on and takes a little breather.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Brooks is on top in guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

and Agopyan counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Brooks thinking.

Agopyan regains half guard, as Brooks was trying to land strikes.

Brooks is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Agopyan sees it coming and defends easily.

Brooks is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Ashot Agopyan.
Well Agopyan has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
