PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between BJ Fenn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Terrence Phillips (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Phillips has chosen Dressed For War as his entrance music. BJ Fenn had real problems making weight for this fight. After initially coming in at 157.1lbs, he had two hours to make the official fight weight. He made it but it will have taken a lot out of him to cut those extra few pounds. On his way into the cage it seems that BJ Fenn has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily BJ Fenn seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fenn slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Nice sprawl there from Phillips as Fenn shoots in.
Fenn is looking to score with low kicks.
Fenn lands a two punch combo.
Fenn looks to land a combination. Phillips sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Fenn throws a right and a left that both miss.
Fenn shoots in but Phillips avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Phillips dodges the punch combination from Fenn.
Fenn throws a right and a left that both miss.

Phillips drives through with a takedown into guard.
Phillipsis looking to pass into half guard but Fenn pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Fenn is in guard.
Phillips wants to sweep here but Fenn controlling him for the moment.
Phillips thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Phillips trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.

Fenn stands up from Phillips's guard - Fenn perhaps looking for a knockout.
Fenn is breathing heavily.
Phillips gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Fenn counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Phillips tries to clinch up.

Fenn has managed to clinch.

Fenn breaks the clinch.
Fenn throws a nice looking combination but Phillips bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
BJ Fenn seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Phillips throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Fenn's waist but Phillips gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Phillips off to one side.

and Phillips counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for BJ Fenn. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Phillips passes easily into side control. Nice work.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Fenn is not content to let Phillips control the position.

Fenn manages to work his way to half guard, despite Phillips's best efforts.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Fenn has one foot on Phillips's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.

Fenn moves into range and clinches up with Phillips.

Phillips breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Phillips throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Fenn.

Fenn tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Phillips looks to move to half guard but instead Fenn has passed into mount! Damn!
Fenn is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Phillips can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Phillips really wants to buck Fenn off and get back to his feet.

Phillips tries to improve his position but instead Fenn has taken his back!

Despite being in a bad position, Phillips is controlling the hands, preventing any submission attempts.
Phillips tries to roll but Fenn sticks to his back.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Phillips turns into Fenn and is now in his guard.

Phillips drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Fenn manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Phillips has Fenn in his guard.

Phillips has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Fenn is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Phillips.

Phillips wants to improve his position, back to half guard but Fenn has ideas of his own. He's got hold of Phillips's far side arm and it looks like he's got an Americana. Ohh! Ohhhh! OOOOOOOOOH! A human being's arm is not meant to bend like that! Phillips is tapping like a morse code operator on the Titanic! SOS SOS! He's out of here! Great win for Fenn!
