PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Oishi Yoshio (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brian Baumgardner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Yoshio comes to the cage accompanied by "Stronger" by Kanye West. Baumgardner has chosen COWBOYS FROM HELL as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Oishi Yoshio!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Brian Baumgardner!
The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Yukihiro Shimada and Kenichi Hosakawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Yoshio tries a head kick but it misses.
Yoshio misses with an attempted mid kick.
Yoshio scores with a jab.
Yoshio pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Yoshio misses with a low kick.
Baumgardner darts in and out, connecting with a jab.


It looks like Oishi Yoshio has been cut.
Baumgardner closes the distance and clinches up with Yoshio, looking for a takedown. Baumgardner pushes Yoshio against the cage but Yoshio circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Yoshio thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Baumgardner if he has to take too many more of those.

Baumgardner shoots in and bounces Yoshio off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Yoshio looking for a sweep. Not yet Yoshio, not yet.
Baumgardner trying to control the position from guard on top but Yoshio is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Baumgardner has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Yoshio manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Baumgardner manages to get himself to full guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Yoshio slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Baumgardner throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.

Baumgardner doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Baumgardner wants to sweep but no luck.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Baumgardner tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Yoshio has advanced to mount. Uh oh.
Baumgardner tries to reverse the position but Yoshio maintains control.
Baumgardner is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Oishi Yoshio will probably get the nod.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Yoshio is looking to control Baumgardner's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Yoshio avoid being mounted?

Baumgardner passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Yoshio!
Yoshio is trying to escape the mount.
Baumgardner looking to ground and pound but Yoshio is blocking nicely.
Yoshio regains half guard.
Yoshio is trying to control but can't.
Yoshio holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
Yoshio wants to control but Baumgardner is keeping busy.
Yoshio is looking for a sweep. Baumgardner is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Baumgardner wants to pass to mount but Yoshio is defending the position.
Yoshio avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Baumgardner.
Yoshio manages to get to full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Yoshio pulls Baumgardner in close to his closed guard and prevents Baumgardner from doing any damage or advancing position.
Yoshio is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Baumgardner wants to control from the top but Yoshio keeps moving.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Baumgardner throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Yoshio's waist but Yoshio gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Baumgardner off to one side.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Baumgardner shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Yoshio defends it nicely.
Baumgardner is breathing heavily.
A big left from Yoshio misses.
Baumgardner keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Yoshio.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Baumgardner takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Yoshio blocks the body kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Oishi Yoshio will probably get the nod.

Baumgardner uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Yoshio.
Yoshio tries to bum rush Baumgardner with a series of wild strikes but Baumgardner uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Yoshio throws a combination. Baumgardner tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Baumgardner shoots in for a takedown but Yoshio shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Yoshio feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Baumgardner's calf.
Baumgardner takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Baumgardner lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Baumgardner moves out of range as Yoshio strikes.
Yoshio misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Baumgardner.
Yoshio finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Baumgardner will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Oishi Yoshio has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Brian Baumgardner.
Yoshio attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.
Oishi Yoshio seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Yoshio connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
A nice inside leg kick there by Yoshio. That's going to slow Baumgardner down.
Brian Baumgardner has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Yoshio goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Yoshio misses with an attempted mid kick.
Yoshio tests Baumgardner's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Yoshio cracks the inside of Baumgardner's front leg.
Baumgardner slips a straight right by Yoshio.
Baumgardner misses the jab.
Yoshio scores with a sloppy right hand. Baumgardner should have avoided that one.


Baumgardner is rocked!

Yoshio drops Baumgardner with a big left hand! Baumgardner is injured, injured bad! Yoshio jumps in and finished him with strikes! The fight is over!
