Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
7 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Herb Hurt!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Rocc Lion!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, William Peck and Steve Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hurt shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Hurt showed some decent athleticism there.
Hurt stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Lion to get to his feet.
Lion has his takedown stuffed
and Hurt counters with a series of strikes. Lion will be more careful next time no doubt.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Hurt misses with a jab, cross combination.
Hurt misses with a head kick.
Hurt shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Lion napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Lion wants to control but Hurt postures up.
Lion prevents Hurt from improving position.
Lion manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Lion is looking to stall here but Hurt recovers full guard.

Lion drops back, looking for a kneebar! Hurt looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Hurt looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Hurt!
Hurt decides to stand back up.
Hurt drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Hurt tries to free his leg and advance position but Lion is retaining full guard.
Hurt prevents Lion from getting back to his feet.
Lion looks gassed!

Lion regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Hurt.

Lion looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Hurt passes into half guard.
Hurt gets to his feet - back to striking we go!
Hurt connects with a looping right hand.
Hurt has managed to clinch.
Hurt works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Lion can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Hurt controls the pace.
Hurt wants to pass the guard but Lion is keeping the position.
Hurt gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Hurt lands a nice short elbow.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Hurt darts in and clinches Lion up against the cage.
Hurt ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Hurt no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hurt throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Lion is looking to advance position but Hurt has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!
Hurt wants to control the pace but Lion is squirming around nicely.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Hurt has taken the fight to the clinch.
Hurt digs a right hand into Lion's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Lion's gas tank.
Hurt breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Hurt throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
Lion keeps the fight on the outside.

Hurt slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Hurt is in close to Lion's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Hurt stands up and waves to Lion to follow him.
Hurt is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Lion can do to turn this around?

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Lion takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Hurt lands with an uppercut that bounces Lion off the cage and back into rage.
Hurt misses with a jab, cross combination.

Lion wants to get back to striking at distance but Hurt won't allow it.

Lion wants to break the clinch but can't.

Hurt gets underhooks to prevent Lion's takedown attempt.
Lion wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Hurt is trying to wear down his opponent with knees to the body.
Hurt stalling.
The crowd are getting pretty annoyed with Hurt for his constant stalling in the clinch and are voicing their displeasure.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Hurt gets underhooks to prevent Lion's takedown attempt.
Herb Hurt has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rocc Lion.
Hurt has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Lion is trying to keep an underhook but Hurt manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Hurt is working for a kimura but Lion is defending it quite comfortably.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hurt is looking for a kimura here.
Hurt is keen to just control but Lion is a slippery customer.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Herb Hurt dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!
Hurt tries to clinch there but Lion circles away.
Hurt has Lion up against the cage in a clinch.
Lion can't break the clinch.
Hurt successfully pulls guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lion pushes down on Hurt's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Lion must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Lion takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Hurt trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
Hurt might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Hurt utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Lion throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Hurt working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Lion doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Lion manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Hurt had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Lion defends it easily.
Lion is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Hurt is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Hurt has escaped and now he's on top!

Hurt drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Hurt jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Hurt passes Lion's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Herb Hurt overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Hurt passes the guard and advances to mount!
Hurt takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Herb Hurt is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Lion keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Hurt controlling his opponent.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Hurt stands up from mount. Strange move.
Hurt gets a clinch.
Lion drops down looking for an ankle pick but Hurt pulls his leg out and moves away.
Rocc Lion has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Hurt bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
And that's the end of the fight!

Well Hurt has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
