PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Bruce Wayne (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Michael Hopp (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Bruce Wayne!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Michael Hopp!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Robert Douchet and Dillan Fox.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hopp stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Hopp wants it to stay on the feet.
A swing and a miss from Wayne.
Wayne displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Hopp.
A cross from Wayne lands.
Hopp shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Wayne lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Hopp steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Wayne.

and Hopp counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Wayne's guard now.

Hopp drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Hopp jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Wayne is on top in guard.
Hopp wants to sweep here but Wayne controlling him for the moment.

Hopp looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Hopp is trying to control the position but Wayne postures up.

Hopp can't keep his opponent in guard - Wayne advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Hopp works his way to full guard. Good work.

Hopp working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Wayne doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Wayne manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Hopp has his foot on Wayne's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Wayne works his way back into a safe position though.

Wayne is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Wayne tries to free his leg and advance position but Hopp is retaining full guard.

Hopp is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Wayne pulls his head out easily.
Hopp looks gassed!
Wayne lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

Wayne seems to be working for a kimura but Hopp defends the submission attempt.

Wayne is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Hopp doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Wayne.

Hopp regains full guard. Nicely done.

Wayne passes Hopp's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

I would not like to be Wayne right now.

Hopp looking to break Wayne's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Wayne remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Hopp will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hopp is trying to stick to Wayne's back but Wayne is turning into Hopp. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Hopp's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Wayne.

Wayne stands and throws Hopp's legs to the side, diving into side control.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Hopp tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Wayne wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Wayne looks up at the clock and then as Hopp takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Wayne smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Wayne tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Wayne has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Bruce Wayne will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Wayne swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Hopp avoids the body shot from Wayne.
Wayne tries a low kick but Hopp avoids it.
Bruce Wayne seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Wayne throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Wayne just misses with a punch to the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Hopp shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Hopp was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Hopp tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Wayne holds on for dear life.
Wayne manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Wayne is trying to get back to full guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Hopp lands a nice short elbow.
Hopp looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Hopp is thwarting Wayne's attempts to control the position.

Wayne is defending against the submission attempts here by Hopp.
Hopp is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Wayne is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Hopp looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Wayne keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Hopp is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Hopp is breathing heavily.
Wayne wants to improve his position but Hopp is controlling well.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Hopp throwing shots but Wayne is blocking nicely.

Hopp is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Hopp wants to lay and pray for a moment but Wayne keeps working.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Hopp shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Michael Hopp showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Hopp closes the distance and clinches up with Wayne, looking for a takedown. Hopp pushes Wayne against the cage but Wayne circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Wayne scores with a hook to the body. Hopp takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Hopp moves away from the strike by Wayne.
Wayne swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Hopp uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Wayne.
Wayne dips to his left and cracks Hopp with an uppercut!

Wayne drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Hopp is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Wayne's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Wayne prevents Hopp from improving his position.
Hopp is pressing down on Wayne's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Hopp takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Wayne avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Hopp tries to bench press Wayne off him but Wayne keeps the position.
You can see the frustration on Hopp's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Wayne goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Hopp rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Wayne's guard! Nice work there by Hopp!
Hopp keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Wayne's head.

Hopp wants to take a breather but Wayne is having none of it.
Wayne controlling the position for now.
Wayne moves into full guard.
Hopp is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Wayne looking to hit a scissor sweep but Hopp is one step ahead there.
Hopp slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Hopp in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Hopp trying to control the action but Wayne is working from the bottom.
Wayne is looking to reverse the position.
A bit of a lull in the action here.
Hopp lands a decent elbow from side control.

Hopp is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Wayne knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Wayne tries to buck Hopp off but Hopp is having none of it.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Bruce Wayne.
I think Wayne has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
