Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Frank Mason (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jeremy Staton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A lazy left from Staton finds it's target.
Mason displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Staton.
Mason keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Mason jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Staton uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Mason.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Mason knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Staton on the ground.

Staton is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Mason has escaped the position, nice work there.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mason wants to control but Staton postures up.

Mason tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Staton wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Staton wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
The fighters circling - Mason throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

Frank Mason seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Mason tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Staton was well out of range. Poor timing from Mason.

Staton postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Staton is looking to take a break and control but Mason is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Mason tries to roll over but Staton keeps him under control.
Staton looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Mason with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Staton shoots in for a takedown but Mason shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
A telegraphed right hand from Mason misses the target.
Mason stalks Staton and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Staton's face. Staton staggers backwards, shaken.
Mason fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Staton manages to avoid it.
Staton uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Mason.
Mason throws a big shot that misses.
Staton shoots in but no luck this time.

Mason throws out a loose jab but Staton uses good head movement to avoid it.
Mason throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Staton sees it coming and avoids it easily.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Staton misses with a takedown attempt - Mason sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Frank Mason has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jeremy Staton.

and Staton cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Mason closes the distance looking to clinch

and Staton counters with a single leg into guard. Mason didn't expect that.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Mason is on top in guard.
Staton has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Staton seems keen to control Mason's posture.
Staton is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Mason throws a hook to the side of Staton's head but Staton sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Jeremy Staton comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Staton has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
