PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jonny Chapman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Wong Fue (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fue has chosen Ante Up Remix (featuring Busta Rhymes, Teflon, and Remy M as his entrance music. Wong Fue told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jonny Chapman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Wong Fue!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Blasius, Saam Ante and Aafke Stam.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chapman connects with a body shot.

Fue shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Fue drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Fue jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Chapman has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Fue can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Chapman is looking for a triangle but Fue pushes his legs off easily.

Chapman is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Fue defends well.

Fue drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Chapman manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Fue has Chapman in his guard.

Chapman wants to pass the guard but Fue is keeping the position.
Chapman trying to stand up but can't free himself from Fue's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Chapman thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Chapman stands and steps away. Fue gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Chapman lands with a nice combination. Fue backs away looking to recover.


It looks like Wong Fue has been cut.
Chapman just misses with a punch to the body.
Chapman looks to land a combination but Fue avoids it well.
Chapman swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Jonny Chapman is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Chapman leaves Fue with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Chapman swats away the attempt to clinch by Fue.
Wong Fue seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Fue clinches with his opponent.

Chapman has clasped his hands together around Fue's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Fue is trying to improve his position.
Fue looks gassed!

Chapman is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Fue has escaped the position, nice work there.
Fue sneaks back into half guard.
Fue is looking for a sweep. Chapman is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Chapman looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Chapman is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Chapman is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Fue defends it well.
Fue moves into full guard.

Fue isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Chapman stacks Fue on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Chapman!

Chapman is trying to get an arm triangle but Fue is defending well.

Chapman is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Fue is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Fue is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Chapman's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

Fue looking for submissions off his back.

Fue is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Chapman pulls his head out easily.

Chapman decides to stand and escape the position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Chapman misses with a few strikes there.
Fue shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Chapman misses with a series of wild punches.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The cut man is working on Wong Fue's cut.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Fue fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Horrible takedown by Fue or perhaps it was just good defense by Chapman which made him look bad.
Chapman works over Fue's head and body with a nice combination.
Fue dodges the punch combination from Chapman.

Chapman takes the fight into the clinch.
Chapman has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Fue avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Chapman manages to break the clinch.
Fue misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Jonny Chapman has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Wong Fue.
Chapman misses with a few strikes there.
Chapman misses with a double jab.
Chapman throws a series of punches but Fue moves out of range.

Chapman throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Chapman swinging wildly here.

Chapman swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Fue gets a clinch.

Fue jumps into guard, dragging Chapman to the mat.
Fue looking to hit a scissor sweep but Chapman is one step ahead there.

Fue looking for a guillotine here but Chapman defends easily.
Chapman wants to stand but Fue has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Fue is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Fue is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Chapman stands up from Fue's guard - Chapman perhaps looking for a knockout.
Chapman's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and Chapman duly obliges.

Chapman swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Fue fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Chapman avoids it really well and circles away.
Chapman scores with a one two! Fue had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.

Chapman closes the distance and clinches.
Chapman has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Fue is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Fue fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Fue pulls guard effortlessly.

Chapman got a little sloppy there for a moment and Fue has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Chapman has managed to get both his arms back between Fue's legs - danger averted.
Chapman knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Fue on the ground.

Fue wants to sweep here but Chapman controlling him for the moment.

Fue has his foot on Chapman's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Chapman works his way back into a safe position though.

Chapman wanted to stand there but Fue had control of the position.
Fue is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Wong Fue showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Chapman throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Fue.

Fue closes the distance and clinches.
Chapman is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Fue pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Fue tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Chapman just stands there and leans against the cage.
Chapman drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Fue gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Fue ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Fue no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Chapman drops back looking for a leg! Fue is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Fue manages to kick Chapman off! Chapman jumps back into Fue's guard.

Fue looking for a guillotine here but Chapman defends easily.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Fue is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a tringle but Chapman frees his head nicely. Oh but Fue has switched to an armbar! Chapman is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
