PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Johnny Nova (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and moan snake (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). snake has chosen ra the rugged man - break the walls down as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Paulo Santos and Thiago Cunha.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
snake blocks a head kick by Nova.

Nova closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
snake is trying to control Nova's posture but Nova avoids it.

Nova tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Nova has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Nova tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
snake is looking for a sweep.
Nova working away.
snake regains half guard.
Nova is tying to control. snake wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Nova is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so snake is just riding it out for now. Nova eventually gives up the hold.
Nova works his foot free and advances to mount.

snake is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Nova has control of snake's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and snake regains control of the situation pretty easily.
snake tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Nova knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for snake on the ground.
snake is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Nova swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and snake is now in Nova's guard. A big mistake from Nova there, giving up the dominant position!

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Nova trying to keep a closed guard but snake is proving a slippery customer.
Nova wants to sweep but no luck.
Nova is working hard here to advance position.
snake wants to control from the top but Nova keeps moving.

snake postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Nova is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of snake, into his guard.
snake looks gassed!
snake is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
snake looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

Nova is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but snake pulls his head out easily.
Nova is looking to control snake's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Nova avoid being mounted?

snake trying to work for an americana but Nova has managed to regain full guard.

Nova looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
snake passes Nova's left leg - he's now in half guard.

snake decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.

Nova bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
snake gets back to half guard.
snake makes his way to full guard. A much better position for snake.

Nova avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Nova won't allow snake to sweep him here.

snake looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

snake is looking for a triangle but Nova pushes his legs off easily.
Nova has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

snake working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Nova doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Nova manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
