Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Brian Leonard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and AJ Banal (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). There are an array of beautiful celebrities at ringside tonight! I wonder if any of them paid for their tickets.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Brian Leonard!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, AJ Banal!
The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Thiago Cunha and Edson Gomes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Leonard lands a big head kick that sends Banal tumbling to the mat! Leonard takes a step backwards and waves Banal back to his feet - he wants the finish!


Banal is rocked!


It looks like AJ Banal has been cut.
Banal looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Banal chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Leonard can pounce on him.
Banal is still on wobbly legs! Can Leonard finish him?
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Leonard is defended easily by Banal.

Leonard clinches up with Banal and pushes him back against the cage.
Leonard could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Leonard escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Banal seems to have recovered his senses.
Leonard misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Leonard throws a head kick but Banal moves out of range.

Leonard throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.

Leonard throws the kick towards the body but Banal avoids it.

Leonard shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Banal napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Leonard tries to get to his feet but Banal is in the middle of advancing position himself and ends up with Leonard in his guard.

Leonard thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Leonard wants to stand but Banal has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Leonard wants to take a breather but Banal is having none of it.
Leonard wants to stand but Banal has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Leonard decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.

Leonard darts in and clinches Banal up against the cage.

Leonard breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Leonard misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Banal checks the leg kick nicely there.
Brian Leonard seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Leonard fails with the takedown

and Banal decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Leonard's guard.
Banal wants to control from the top but Leonard keeps moving.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Leonard is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Banal wants to get up but he can't break Leonard's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Banal drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Leonard is trying to control Banal's posture but Banal avoids it.

Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Leonard shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.

Leonard's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

and Banal counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Leonard!

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Banal in particular looking to stall.

Banal seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Leonard does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Leonard working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Banal doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Banal manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Leonard goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Leonard fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Banal.
Leonard throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Banal's head.

Good work by Banal as he checks the leg kick.
Leonard tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Banal is able to avoid easily.
Leonard throws a head kick that misses.

Leonard is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Banal's half guard.

Leonard looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Leonard decides to stand up.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Brian Leonard.
I think Leonard has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
