PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Nataleo Detrio (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sean Drake (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Nataleo Detrio!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sean Drake!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, George Francis and Stewart Dunkirk.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Drake wants to clinch.
Drake dives in and grabs Detrio's left leg, looking for a takedown. Detrio pushes down on Drake's head and hops out.
Drake tries to close the distance and clinch but Detrio swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Detrio rushes Drake and presses him up against the cage.
Drake has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Detrio avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Detrio is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Drake is defending well for now.

Detrio manages to break the clinch.
A slapping body kick lands there for Detrio.

Detrio lands a left and a right that send Drake crashing to the mat, dazed. Detrio thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Detrio closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Drake really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Detrio. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Detrio slows the pace down.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Drake wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Drake looks gassed!

Detrio wants to control but Drake is keeping him busy.
Detrio is really struggling to control Drake but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Drake seems a little lost for a moment, as Detrio dominates the positioning.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Drake is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Detrio asserts his dominance and retains side control.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Drake tries to close the distance and clinch up but Detrio swats him away and circles back towards the center.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Drake shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Detrio counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Drake's guard now.
Nataleo Detrio has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Sean Drake.

Detrio pushes down on Drake's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Detrio perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Detrio drops an elbow to the side of Drake's head.
Detrio really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Drake is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Detrio has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Detrio lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Detrio with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Detrio connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Detrio controlling the pace for now.

Detrio seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Drake for as long as he can get away with.

Detrio has control of Drake's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Drake regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Drake wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.

Drake bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Drake scores with a leg kick.
Drake shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Detrio holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Detrio is pushing Drake up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.

Drake breaks from the clinch.
Detrio tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Drake shoots in and drives through. Detrio sprawls well.
Drake blocks the body kick.
Detrio fails with an attempt to clinch.
Drake is breathing heavily.

Detrio shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Drake's guard.
Drake has control of Detrio's left arm, preventing Detrio from doing any damage.

Detrio is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Detrio stops Drake from standing up.
Detrio throwing strikes but missing.
Drake thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Drake can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Detrio controls the pace.
Drake controls Detrio momentarily but Detrio frees himself.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Detrio lands a hook that snaps the head of Drake backwards.

Detrio pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

and Detrio decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Drake's guard.

Detrio works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.

You can see the frustration on Drake's face as Detrio controls the position.
Detrio has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Drake throws a head kick but Detrio moves out of range.
Drake shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

Drake tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Detrio just stands there and leans against the cage.

Detrio is trying to trip Drake. He has hold of a leg but Drake is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Detrio persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

Detrio thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

The ground and pound from Detrio seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.

Detrio tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Detrio has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Drake gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Nice strikes from Detrio there.
Detrio thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Detrio throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Drake is looking to improve his position.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Detrio lands a nice short elbow.
Sean Drake has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Nataleo Detrio is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Drake tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.

Well Detrio has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
