The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Susumu looks to score with a jab to the body but Smith is just out of range.
Susumu lands with a shot to the body.

Susumu drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Smith tries to buck Susumu off but Susumu is having none of it.
Smith wants to control but Susumu postures up.
Smith manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Smith trying to mount his opponent but Susumu defends it.
Smith missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Smith thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Susumu's head.

Susumu moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Susumu wants to sweep but no luck.

Smith got a little sloppy there for a moment and Susumu has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Smith has managed to get both his arms back between Susumu's legs - danger averted.
Smith postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Smith stands up over his opponent, looking to dive in with a big punch. Here he comes, superman style! Oh, the punch misses and Susumu has got him in a triangle choke for good measure! Oh no! Smith manages to get his head free but now Susumu has transitioned to an armbar! Smith grimaces and is forced to tap! Beautiful Jiu Jitsu from Susumu! I'd be surprised if that didn't end up as submission of the night!
