PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tommy Starr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Davis Paul Marcus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Tommy Starr!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Davis Paul Marcus!
The judges for this bout are Aafke Stam, Saam Ante and Nard Betker.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Starr tries to score a power double leg takedown but Marcus sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Starr somewhat.
Marcus throws a leg kick which misses Starr's front leg but catches the back leg as Starr tries to avoid it.
Starr looks to land a combination but Marcus avoids it well.
Marcus leaves Starr with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Starr looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tommy Starr. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Starr shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Marcus but Marcus pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Starr shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Marcus's guard.

Starr drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Marcus manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Starr has Marcus in his guard.

Starr has his foot on Marcus's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Marcus works his way back into a safe position though.
Starr is breathing heavily.
Marcus would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Starr is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Marcus defends well.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Starr keeping moving, preventing Marcus from controlling successfully.
Marcus has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Starr is proving hard to escape from.

Starr looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Marcus wants to get up but he can't break Starr's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
A looping hook to the body misses from Marcus. Starr does a little dance to reset his feet.
Starr shoots in for a double leg but Marcus sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Marcus defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Starr.
Marcus stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Marcus wants it to stay on the feet.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Davis Paul Marcus is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Marcus ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.

and Marcus counters with a leg kick.
Starr takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.

Starr is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

No joy there for Marcus, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Davis Paul Marcus seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Nice takedown defense from Marcus. No joy for Starr on that attempt.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Marcus changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Starr tries to avoid it but Marcus manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Starr to the ground. Starr escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Marcus scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Starr doesn't seem bothered though.

Marcus comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Jeez, Tommy Starr's cut is really nasty now. The referee must be thinking about getting that checked.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
