The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gailis swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Ainars Gailis seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Tavaras scores with a takedown into Gailis's guard.
Gailis controls Tavaras momentarily but Tavaras frees himself.

Tavaras drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Tavaras jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Gailis really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Tavaras. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Gailis pushes Tavaras away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Tavaras gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Tavaras is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Gailis is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Gailis lands a jab.
Gailis misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Gailis lands with a nice combination. Tavaras backs away looking to recover.
Gailis moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Gailis lands a jab-cross combination.
Gailis rushes Tavaras with punches - Tavaras moves straight backwards instead of circling and gets clipped by the second strike... and the third... and the fourth! Oh, Tavaras goes down! Gailis follows up with more strikes and the ref steps in to end the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:26 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Ainars Gailis!
