Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Mike Duran (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gustavo Chida (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mike Duran!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Gustavo Chida!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Paulo Santos and Matheus Silva.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Duran works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
Chida working a defensive guard here.
Chida being controlled here, momentarily.
Chida wants to sweep here but Duran controlling him for the moment.
Chida looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Duran puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

Chida avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Duran.
Chida is trying to control but Duran manages to pass to mount!
Duran prevents Chida from getting the reversal.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Chida is in all sorts of trouble here.
Duran tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Chida slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.

Chida is trying to maintain the position but Duran is very close to passing his half guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Duran decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Chida throws the left hand but Duran avoids the punch easily.
Chida wants to clinch

and Duran counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Duran.

Chida pulls guard effortlessly.
Duran is stalling in the full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mike Duran dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


A telegraphed right hand from Chida misses the target.
Chida lands a jab to Duran's midsection.
Chida wants to clinch

and Duran counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Duran is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Chida scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Duran manages to mount him!
Duran controlling the pace for now.
Chida is breathing heavily.

Duran's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Mike Duran just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Duran throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Chida.
Chida throws a mid kick that lands with a slap.

Duran clinches up against the cage.
Chida wants to break the clinch but can't.
Chida tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Duran just stands there and leans against the cage.
Chida is trying to break the clinch but Duran is controlling him.
Chida pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage.

Duran manages to break the clinch.
Chida checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Duran dodges the punch combination from Chida.

Duran drives through and clinches with Chida against the cage.

Duran manages to break the clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
No joy there for Duran, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Chida tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Duran was well out of range. Poor timing from Chida.
Duran scores to the head and body with a nice combination!


It looks like Gustavo Chida has been cut.

Duran clinches.

Duran has Chida pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Duran pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Chida tumbling to the mat - Duran dives into Chida's guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Duran stands up and waves to Chida to follow him.

Duran darts in and clinches Chida up against the cage.
Duran controlling the action here for a moment.

Duran escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A punch combination from Duran misses.
Nice body punch from Duran.

Duran scores a takedown into full mount!
Chida is working to get back to half guard.
Mike Duran overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Duran takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Duran has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Duran plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
Chida slips a jab and a cross from Duran.
Duran throws a right and a left that both miss.
Chida works the jab nicely.
Duran throws a head kick that misses.
Chida misses with a double jab
and Duran counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Duran moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Chida closes the distance looking to clinch

and Duran counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Chida!
Duran takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Chida keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Duran sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Mike Duran just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Chida avoids a low kick by using good footwork.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Chida looks to throw the jab but Duran is out of range.
Duran misses with the combination.
Chida closes the distance looking to clinch

and Duran moves into the clinch.
Chida blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Chida is trying to break the clinch but Duran is controlling him.

Duran breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Duran rushes Chida and presses him up against the cage.
Chida working hard to break the clinch.
Duran lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Chida backwards.

A nice combination there by Duran.
Mike Duran is winning the standup battle so far.

Duran moves into the clinch.
Gustavo Chida has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Mike Duran is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Duran pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

And that's the end of the fight!
Mike Duran showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Duran has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
