Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Chuck Liddell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Martin Nordstrom (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Chuck Liddell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Martin Nordstrom!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Bruno Hogan and Skip Squint.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Liddell swats away the attempt to clinch by Nordstrom.
Liddell avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Nordstrom closes this distance looking for a takedown but Liddell circles away.
Liddell darts in trying to clinch
letting Nordstrom counter with a right hand.
Liddell stuffs the takedown attempt from Nordstrom. Nordstrom gets slowly back to his feet.

Liddell closes the distance and clinches.
Nordstrom lands a nice elbow from the clinch.


It looks like Chuck Liddell has been cut.

Liddell is looking for a triangle but Nordstrom pushes his legs off easily.

Nordstrom postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Liddell is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Nordstrom, into his guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Liddell shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Nordstrom is trying to defend but Liddell finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Nordstrom is trying to maintain the position but Liddell is very close to passing his half guard.

Liddell winds up and cracks Nordstrom with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

and Nordstrom counters with a low kick, right behind Liddell 's knee.

and Liddell counters with a single leg into guard. Nordstrom didn't expect that.
Liddell looking to sit in guard and control but Nordstrom gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Nordstrom accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Liddell seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Nordstrom decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Liddell shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Nordstrom manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Liddell passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Nordstrom takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Nordstrom pushes Liddell away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Liddell gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Nordstrom regains half guard, as Liddell was trying to land strikes.
Nordstrom is trying to control but Liddell passes into side control!

Liddell wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Nordstrom, who protects the arm well.

Liddell stands up and beckons Nordstrom to his feet.

Liddell tries for a takedown but Nordstrom sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Liddell fails to land the takedown.
Liddell avoids a punch combination nicely.
Nordstrom wants to clinch but Liddell slips to the side

and Liddell holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Nordstrom tries to pull guard but Liddell won't allow it.

Liddell gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Nordstrom regains guard.
Liddell trying to control but Nordstrom is working from the bottom.
Nordstrom is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Nordstrom has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Liddell off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
Liddell shoots in for a takedown but Nordstrom shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Chuck Liddell. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Liddell closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Nordstrom to the mat! Nordstrom manages to get full guard.

Nordstrom looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Nordstrom is trying to control the position but Liddell postures up.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Liddell controls from within his opponent's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Nordstrom wants to lay and pray for a moment but Liddell keeps working.
Liddell is holding on to half guard well.
Liddell wants to improve his position but Nordstrom is controlling well.
Nordstrom thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Nordstrom seems to be looking for submissions.
Liddell controlling the position well.
Liddell is trying to maintain the position but Nordstrom is very close to passing his half guard.
Liddell is pressing down on Nordstrom's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Liddell is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Liddell keeping moving, preventing Nordstrom from controlling successfully.

Nordstrom is sitting in close to Liddell's body. Liddell has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Nordstrom is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Nordstrom is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Liddell.
