PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Larry Bishop (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gunner Grant (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bishop comes to the cage accompanied by Skatalites - James Bond. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Gunner Grant was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Larry Bishop!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Gunner Grant!
The judges for this bout are Nard Betker, Albert Achterberg and Aafke Stam.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Grant ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Bishop misses with a jab, cross combination.
Grant keeps the fight on the outside.

Grant feints and as Bishop raises his hands in defense, Grant changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Grant drops back looking for a leg! Bishop is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Bishop manages to kick Grant off! Grant jumps back into Bishop's guard.
Bishop is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Grant stays in close to Bishop's body and controls the position.
Grant is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Bishop wants to stand up but Grant is controlling him.
Grant is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Grant accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Grant missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Bishop is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Grant closes this distance looking for a takedown but Bishop circles away.
Bishop tries to clinch but Grant is having none of it.

Grant fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Bishop sprawls well initially but Grant persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Bishop pushes Grant off looking to stand but Grant dives back in and keeps control.
Grant seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Grant is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Bishop is just riding it out for now. Grant eventually gives up the hold.

Grant looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Grant is keen to just control but Bishop is a slippery customer.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Bishop is defending against the submission attempts here by Grant.
Grant prevents Bishop from standing back up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Bishop throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Larry Bishop is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Grant shoots in but no luck this time.

Bishop fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Grant decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Grant stops Bishop from getting back to his feet.
Grant wants to lay and pray for a moment but Bishop keeps working.
Grant seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Grant is trying to control the action in half guard but Bishop is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Grant decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Bishop tries to close the distance and clinch but Grant swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

and Grant counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Bishop works his way to full guard. Good work.
Bishop controls Grant momentarily but Grant frees himself.
Bishop is looking to stand up but Grant isn't so interested in that idea.
Grant is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Bishop wants to stand and escape but Grant is having none of it.
Grant wants to control from the top but Bishop keeps moving.

Grant thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Grant drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Bishop wants to get back to his feet.

Bishop is trying to escape the position but Grant is controlling the position.
Bishop is looking to regain half guard here but Grant keeps moving and retains side control.
Bishop is trying to control Grant's posture but Grant avoids it.
Grant staying calm.
Bishop wants to control but Grant postures up.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Grant stands up.
Grant throws a sloppy head kick and Bishop moves out of range easily.
Grant bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Bishop tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Grant counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Grant is looking to work some ground and pound but Bishop has wrist control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Bishop keeping moving, preventing Grant from controlling successfully.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gunner Grant showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Bishop throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Bishop gets a clinch.
Bishop is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Grant pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Grant pulls Bishop into guard.

Grant working for a triangle but Bishop defends it easily.
Bishop looking to pass the guard.

Grant working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Bishop doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Bishop manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Grant wants to sweep here but Bishop controlling him for the moment.
Bishop has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Grant is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Grant takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Bishop tries to kick Grant off but Grant keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Bishop knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Grant on the ground.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Bishop is staying active underneath Grant, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Grant stalling away here and it's allowed Bishop to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

Grant drops back looking for a leg! Bishop is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Bishop manages to kick Grant off! Grant jumps back into Bishop's guard.

Grant throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Grant accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Bishop avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Grant is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Grant takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.

Grant closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Grant prevents Bishop from escaping the position.
Gunner Grant is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Bishop is trying to control Grant's posture but Grant avoids it.
A lull in the action here as Grant stalls from top position.

And that's the end of the fight!
Gunner Grant comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Grant winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
