These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Emelianenko has closed the distance and engaged Valenzuela in a clinch.
Valenzuela is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Emelianenko pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Valenzuela tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Emelianenko lands a glancing elbow in the clinch.
Emelianenko lands an elbow just above Valenzuela 's eye.

It looks like Karl Valenzuela has been cut.
Valenzuela jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Emelianenko walks away with a smile on his face. Valenzuela gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Valenzuela fails to land the takedown.
Roman Emelianenko has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Karl Valenzuela.

Emelianenko moves into the clinch.
Valenzuela tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Emelianenko just stands there and leans against the cage.
Valenzuela tries to pull guard but Emelianenko holds him up against the cage and eventually Valenzuela drops back down to his feet.
Emelianenko is pressed up against the cage. Valenzuela has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Emelianenko down to the mat. Emelianenko avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Emelianenko is looking to clinch but Valenzuela is avoiding it.

Emelianenko rushes Valenzuela and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Valenzuela throws a nice looking combination but Emelianenko bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Emelianenko tries to close the distance and clinch up but Valenzuela swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Valenzuela can't get the takedown.
Emelianenko lands an elbow inside that Valenzuela shrugs off.
Valenzuela takes an elbow to the forehead.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Emelianenko takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
Emelianenko lands an uppercut in the clinch that drops Valenzuela to his knees! Emelianenko keeps firing more shots against his stricken opponent and the referee jumps in to save him!
