PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Rye King (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Escudero Escobar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Rye King!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Escudero Escobar!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Blasius, Nard Betker and Albert Achterberg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

King shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
King passes to side control.
Escobar is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked King off and has taken his back!
Escobar controlling well, preventing King from escaping the position.

Escobar looking for the choke but no joy.
King is defending well here and trying to improve his position.

Escobar patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here?
King tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
King regains half guard.
King regains full guard. Nicely done.

Escobar is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

King had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Escobar defends it easily.

That's one minute gone in the round.

King is looking for a triangle but Escobar pushes his legs off easily.
Escobar stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. King swivels though and keeps the full guard.

King escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Escobar gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
King is breathing heavily.
King looking to hit a scissor sweep but Escobar is one step ahead there.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

King looking for a guillotine here but Escobar defends easily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Escobar thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Escobar wants to pass the guard but King is keeping the position.

Escobar is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

King working for a triangle but Escobar defends it easily.

King escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Escobar gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

King is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

King is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Escobar defends well.
Escobar lands a couple of decent looking shots.

Escobar decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on King, up you get!

and King counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by King.

King postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Escobar is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of King, into his guard.

Escobar drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Escobar jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Escobar pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. King is keeping the position for now.

Escobar drops back, looking for a kneebar! King looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. King looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from King!
King wants to control but Escobar is keeping him busy.
King creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
King trying to control the position but Escobar is working away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rye King dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


King tries for a takedown but Escobar circles away easily

and Escobar decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in King's guard.
King keeping moving, preventing Escobar from controlling successfully.
King lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Escobar!

Escobar is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Escobar is squirming around, avoiding King's attempts to control the action.
Escobar tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Escobar has left one of his arms exposed and King doesn't need a second invitation. He's isolated it and locked on a tight armbar. Escobar screams and taps out, obviously in a lot of pain. Hopefully there isn't permanent damage to that arm.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:05 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Rye King!
