PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jack Herer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ben Sparringpartner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Herer is coming into this fight with a significant injury, which will no doubt have an effect on his cardio. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ben Sparringpartner!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Alan Glass and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Herer swats away the attempt to clinch by Sparringpartner.
Herer throws a sloppy head kick and Sparringpartner moves out of range easily.
Herer is breathing heavily.
Sparringpartner shoots in and drives through. Herer sprawls well.
Herer cracks the inside of Sparringpartner's front leg.
Sparringpartner blocks a head kick by Herer.
Sparringpartner slips a jab from Herer.
Sparringpartner misses with a takedown attempt - Herer sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Sparringpartner looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Herer!
Sparringpartner content just to control the position here.

Sparringpartner goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Herer turns into him and now he's in Sparringpartner's guard.

Sparringpartner throws his legs up looking for a submission but Herer uses it to pass to side control.
Herer throws a strike aimed at the side of Sparringpartner's head but Sparringpartner avoids it well.
Sparringpartner manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Sparringpartner keeping hold of Herer's head, controlling as best he can.
Herer prevents Sparringpartner from improving his position.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Sparringpartner has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Herer is working away from the top position though.
Sparringpartner tries to get to full guard but Herer has control of the leg.
Sparringpartner landing strikes from the bottom.
Sparringpartner holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
Sparringpartner is pressing down on Herer's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Sparringpartner has his hands on Herer's head, controlling the position.
Let's hope that Sparringpartner has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Sparringpartner looking to hit a scissor sweep but Herer is one step ahead there.

Sparringpartner has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Herer got a little sloppy there for a moment and Sparringpartner has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Herer has managed to get both his arms back between Sparringpartner's legs - danger averted.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Sparringpartner holds on and takes a little breather.
Sparringpartner is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Herer throws a big right hand that misses.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Sparringpartner keeping moving, preventing Herer from controlling successfully.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Sparringpartner fails with a takedown attempt.
Jack Herer has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ben Sparringpartner.

Sparringpartner bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Sparringpartner thows a body shot but no joy.

Sparringpartner shoots in for a double leg but Herer sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Herer. Sparringpartner shrugs it off though.
Herer paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Sparringpartner looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Herer is fending him off so far but Sparringpartner persists. Nope, Herer circles away and we're back to standing.
Jack Herer has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ben Sparringpartner.

Herer bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Sparringpartner's head backwards.

Herer on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Herer tries to get out of the position.
Herer is not content to let Sparringpartner control the position.

Sparringpartner is trying to get an arm triangle but Herer is defending well.
Sparringpartner content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Ben Sparringpartner.
No luck for Sparringpartner with that takedown attempt.
Herer throws a leg kick but Sparringpartner moved away.
Sparringpartner closes this distance looking for a takedown but Herer circles away.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Herer goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Herer throws a body kick that misses.
Sparringpartner moves out of range of the leg kick from Herer.
Sparringpartner shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Herer pinned against the cage. Herer gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Sparringpartner darts in and clinches Herer up against the cage.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Sparringpartner wants a takedown but no success here.
Sparringpartner is trying to drag Herer to the mat but Herer just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Herer pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Ben Sparringpartner will probably get the nod - 10:9.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Sparringpartner shoots in and bounces Herer off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Sparringpartner content to stall in guard here.
Herer tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Sparringpartner trying to control the position from guard on top but Herer is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Sparringpartner slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Ben Sparringpartner is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Sparringpartner fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Herer avoids it really well and circles away.

Jack Herer has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Sparringpartner feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Sparringpartner's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
