PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Thomas Tyler (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe Stevenson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Thomas Tyler!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Joe Stevenson!
The judges for this bout are , Timothy Bukovac and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tyler throws a right and a left that Stevenson avoids nicely.
Jeez, both these guys look absolutely knackered already, that's not a good sign!
Tyler lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Tyler throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Stevenson.

Stevenson looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Tyler wants to stand up but Stevenson is controlling him.

Stevenson drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Stevenson jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Stevenson is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Stevenson is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Stevenson seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Tyler is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Stevenson is controlling him.

Stevenson is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Stevenson prevents Tyler from getting back to his feet.
Stevenson is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Tyler is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Stevenson is controlling him.
Stevenson controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Stevenson won't allow Tyler to get back to his feet.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Tyler wants to stand up but Stevenson is controlling him.
Stevenson trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Stevenson seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Joe Stevenson.

Stevenson gets the takedown into side control.

Stevenson working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Tyler wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Stevenson in side control, just content to control the action for now.

I looks like Stevenson might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Stevenson wants to lay and pray for a moment but Tyler keeps working.
Tyler knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Stevenson on the ground.
Stevenson controls the position.

Stevenson is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Tyler has escaped the position, nice work there.
Stevenson is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Tyler's shoulder. That is not cool.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Joe Stevenson.
Tyler throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.

Tyler gets caught flat footed, as Stevenson shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Stevenson looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Let's hope that Stevenson has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Stevenson trying to control the position from guard on top but Tyler is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Tyler is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Stevenson is controlling him.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Joe Stevenson dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Tyler throws a right hand that Stevenson ducks under and follows up with a left that Stevenson also avoids with ease.
No joy there for Tyler, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Thomas Tyler is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Tyler gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Stevenson to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Stevenson controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Joe Stevenson.
Stevenson shoots for a double leg takedown but Tyler sprawls well. He's pushed Stevenson's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Tyler lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Stevenson circles away quickly and effectively.
Tyler misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Stevenson shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Stevenson showed some decent athleticism there.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Stevenson in particular looking to stall.

Stevenson seems to be working for a kimura but Tyler defends the submission attempt.
Tyler wants to get back to his feet.
Stevenson seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Joe Stevenson.
Stevenson showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Tyler.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Stevenson avoids a punch combination nicely.
Tyler throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Stevenson shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Tyler napping and manages to drive through into side control!
You can see the frustration on Tyler's face as Stevenson controls the position.

Stevenson tries for a kimura but Tyler is defending well.
Stevenson moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
Joe Stevenson has got the better of the ground game so far.
Tyler wants to get back to his feet.

Stevenson has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Tyler is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Stevenson yanks on the arm and Tyler is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Stevenson.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:01 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Joe Stevenson!
