The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sato displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Shamrock.
Shamrock stalks Sato and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Sato's face. Sato staggers backwards, shaken.

Shamrock looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Sato wants to get back to full guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sato gets full guard.
Shamrock tries to free his leg and advance position but Sato is retaining full guard.

Sato looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Shamrock has picked Sato up and slammed him! Sato can't keep hold of the triangle and Shamrock manages to pass to side control!
Sato might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Shamrock lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Sato down.

Shamrock is trying to get an arm triangle but Sato is defending well.
Sato tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Shamrock wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Sato manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

Sato is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Shamrock pulls his head out easily.

Shamrock really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Sato. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
