Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Manunu Igi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and A Saechow (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Manunu Igi has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Manunu Igi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, A Saechow!
The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Hirohito Nitta and Shirou Masuda.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Saechow tries to clinch up but Igi circles away and keeps his distance.
Saechow closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Igi avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Saechow misses with a takedown attempt - Igi sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Igi closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Saechow is trying to control Igi's posture but Igi avoids it.
Saechow is letting Igi control him for a moment.
Igi wants to take a breather but Saechow manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for Igi.

Igi working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Saechow's head.
Igi seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Saechow wants to get back to his feet but Igi is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Saechow avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Igi sitting in guard here, content to control.
Saechow is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Igi knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Saechow on the ground.

Saechow is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Igi is aware though and is defending well.

Saechow might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Igi kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Saechow tries for a takedown but Igi circles away easily
and Igi counters with a series of strikes. Saechow will be more careful next time no doubt.
Saechow gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Igi counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Igi.
Manunu Igi has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of A Saechow.
Igi jumps guard but Saechow stands there with Igi around his waist. Igi gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Igi wants to break free but Saechow has control.
Saechow with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Igi tries to circle away but Saechow has him pinned against the cage.
Igi looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Igi wants a takedown.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Manunu Igi dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


No joy there for Igi, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Saechow clinches but Igi breaks the clinch

and Igi decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Saechow's guard.
Igi won't allow Saechow to sweep him here.
Igi controls from within his opponent's guard.
Saechow looking to control.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Igi loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Igi is stalling in the full guard.

Saechow throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Saechow wants to stand and escape but Igi is having none of it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Igi is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Igi stopping the sweep attempt from Saechow.
Igi has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Saechow is proving hard to escape from.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Saechow looking for a guillotine here but Igi defends easily.
Igi trying to control the position from guard on top but Saechow is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Manunu Igi dominated that second round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Igi shoots in for a takedown but Saechow shows good takedown defense.
Saechow takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Igi shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Saechow sprawls well. Saechow wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Igi gets slowly back to his feet.
Manunu Igi is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Saechow clinches but Igi breaks the clinch
and Igi counters with a lovely shot to the body.
A combination from Igi does no damage.
Saechow looks to land a right hand but Igi moved out of range.
Igi scores with a one two! Saechow had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Saechow throws a head kick but Igi moves out of range.
Igi takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Saechow misses with a body shot.
Igi lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Saechow shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Igi shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Saechow's guard.
Saechow looking for a sweep. Not yet Saechow, not yet.
Saechow trying to keep a closed guard but Igi is proving a slippery customer.
Igi not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Saechow has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Igi can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Saechow takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Saechow is looking to stand up but Igi isn't so interested in that idea.

Igi with a flurry of punches that miss.
Igi sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Igi has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Igi digs a good body shot into Saechow's ribs.

Igi drives through with a takedown into guard.

Igi slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Well Igi has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
