PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Nick James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and AJ Samison (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Samison has chosen No Love- Eminem feat. Lil' Wayne as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Nick James!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, AJ Samison!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Donatello Bradman and Eliza Hachem.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Samison fails with a takedown attempt.
Samison showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from James.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Samison.
Horrible takedown by James or perhaps it was just good defense by Samison which made him look bad.
Samison falls off balance throwing a combination
and James counters with a left and a right that stings Samison.
James works over Samison's head and body with a nice combination.
Samison misses with a few strikes there.
Samison fails with the takedown

and James counters with a single leg into guard. Samison didn't expect that.
James trying to control but Samison is working from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Samison wants to stand but James is controlling the position.
James stays in close to Samison's body and controls the position.

James missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Samison keeping moving, preventing James from controlling successfully.
James tries to free his leg and advance position but Samison is retaining full guard.
James slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
James slips a jab and a cross from Samison.
Samison tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

James feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
James thows a big elbow that misses.
Samison manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. James manages to get himself to full guard.

Samison tries to clinch but James is having none of it.
James tries a head kick but it misses.

Samison scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

James pulls Samison in close to prevent any damage.

James controls Samison momentarily but Samison frees himself.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
James manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Samison avoids a series of strikes thrown by James.
James avoids the attempt from Samison to control.
James content just to control the position here.

James jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Samison is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Samison and James has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
James taking a break here but Samison is having none of it and regains half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

AJ Samison showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Samison is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Samison throws a right hand that James ducks under and follows up with a left that James also avoids with ease.
James misses with a few strikes there.
James fails to land with a series of punches.

and James counters with a stiff right hand.
Samison wants to clinch.

James wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.

Samison takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

James works to advance to full mount. Samison defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
Nick James overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

James misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
James wants to control the pace but Samison is squirming around nicely.

Samison is desperately trying to improve his position but James has a good base and remains in mount.

Samison is squirming around, avoiding James's attempts to control the action.
Samison is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

James throwing shots from mount but they're not landing.
James looking to control but Samison is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
James is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Samison can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

Samison has worked his way to half guard, taking advantage of James's lack of action.

James is looking to take a break and control but Samison is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
James tries to pass to full mount but Samison defends it.
Samison is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.

And that's the end of the fight!
Nick James showed his dominance in that final round.
Well James has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
