PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mia Lewis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ben Richards (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ben Richards told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mia Lewis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ben Richards!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Stewart Dunkirk and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Richards connects with a solid leg kick.
Lewis could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Richards pushes Lewis up against the cage in a clinch.
Richards is pushing Lewis up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Richards cracks Lewis with a nice body shot.
Lewis looks to throw an elbow but misses.

Richards turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Lewis tries to get back to half guard but can't.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

and Richards decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Lewis's guard.

Richards is looking to take a break and control but Lewis is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

and Richards counters with a left to the body.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Richards seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

and Richards counters by clinching up.

The referee warns Lewis that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Richards lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Richards jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Lewis manages to avoid the submission attempt.
The ground and pound from Richards seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ben Richards showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!



Richards closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Ben Richards comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Richards has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
