PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between James Proudstar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Josh Barsanti (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Proudstar comes to the cage accompanied by "Run to the hills" by Iron Maiden. Barsanti is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Bawitdaba. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, James Proudstar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Josh Barsanti!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Alan Glass and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Proudstar fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Barsanti.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Proudstar.
Proudstar tries to clinch up but Barsanti circles away and keeps his distance.
Proudstar darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
An inside leg kick lands from Proudstar.
Barsanti looks gassed!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Proudstar uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Barsanti.
Proudstar dodges the punch combination from Barsanti.
Barsanti sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
Proudstar throws a head kick that looked like it stung.


It looks like Josh Barsanti has been cut.
Proudstar looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Proudstar fakes the leg kick and cracks Barsanti in the body.

Proudstar gets a takedown into half guard.
Proudstar performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Proudstar's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Proudstar has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Proudstar thowing shots but they're missing.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Proudstar can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Barsanti is looking to escape.
Proudstar landing strikes, looking to finish!

Proudstar sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
Proudstar tries to control but Barsanti wriggling away.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Proudstar controlling his opponent.
Barsanti holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Proudstar tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

James Proudstar dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Josh Barsanti's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Barsanti misses with a kick to the body
and Proudstar counters with a low kick, right behind Barsanti 's knee.
A punch combination from Proudstar misses.
Proudstar walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Proudstar is looking to slow Barsanti down with leg kicks.
Some wild striking there from Barsanti.
A solid leg kick lands there for Proudstar.
A slow jab from Barsanti misses its intended target.
Barsanti throws a looping overhand right but Proudstar ducks down to avoid it.

Proudstar darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Barsanti can do anything to dispel that myth.

Poor strikes thrown by Proudstar there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Proudstar trying to control but Barsanti is having none of it.
Proudstar wants to control but instead Barsanti manages to regain half guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of James Proudstar.
Proudstar will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Proudstar throws a front kick that sends Barsanti stumbling back into the cage.
Barsanti swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Josh Barsanti seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Proudstar scores with a nice body kick.
Josh Barsanti is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Proudstar connects with a body shot.
Proudstar lands with a kick to the ribs.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Proudstar wants to clinch up but Barsanti keeps it at a distance.

Proudstar lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.

Proudstar thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Barsanti if he has to take too many more of those.
Proudstar lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Proudstar thows a body kick. Barsanti tries to catch it but that hurt him.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Barsanti on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Proudstar. Proudstar obviously looking to wear him down.

Proudstar scores with a slapping inside leg kick.

Proudstar throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Barsanti was covering up waiting for the punch and Proudstar finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Proudstar stays in close to Barsanti's body and controls the position.
Barsanti really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Proudstar. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Proudstar loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Josh Barsanti has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Proudstar is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Proudstar trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Proudstar is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Barsanti can do to turn this around?
Proudstar is looking to work some ground and pound but Barsanti has wrist control.
Proudstar in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Proudstar will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Barsanti has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Proudstar can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Proudstar lands with a slapping head kick.
Proudstar feints and then cracks Barsanti's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Barsanti down.

Proudstar instigates a clinch.

Proudstar gets control of Barsanti's arms and successfully pulls guard. Proudstar will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Proudstar has his hands on Barsanti's head, controlling the position.
Barsanti must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Proudstar is trying to keep Barsanti in close.
Barsanti wants to get up but he can't break Proudstar's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Proudstar has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Barsanti can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Proudstar controls Barsanti momentarily but Barsanti frees himself.
Proudstar is really struggling to control Barsanti but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Barsanti throws a strike but Proudstar rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Proudstar drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Proudstar jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

And that's the end of the fight!
James Proudstar showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Proudstar has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
