Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Frank Mir (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Garrett Oden (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Oden has chosen Alchemist. Alchemists. as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Frank Mir!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Garrett Oden!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Wesley Smith and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Oden gets a clinch.
Oden is working for takedown but Mir is calmly controlling the position for now.

Mir gets control of Oden's arms and successfully pulls guard. Mir will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Mir looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Mir wants to stand up but Oden is controlling him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Oden controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Oden must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Mir is pulling down on Oden's head. It's preventing any offense from Oden, at least for the moment.

Mir trying to keep a closed guard but Oden is proving a slippery customer.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Mir pushes Oden off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Oden closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Oden lands in his opponent's guard.
Mir is trying to control the position but Oden postures up.

Oden won't allow Mir to sweep him here.
Oden really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Mir. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

and Oden counters with a shoot takedown. Mir fights it but they end up in guard.

Oden loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Oden is stalling in the full guard.
Oden looking to sit in guard and control but Mir gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Mir throws a head kick that half lands.


It looks like Garrett Oden has been cut.
Mir fails with the takedown
and Oden counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Oden leaves Mir with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Oden moves into the clinch.

Mir breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Mir fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Oden, pushing him back against the cage.

Mir tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Oden just stands there and leans against the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Frank Mir. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Mir wants to break free but Oden has control.
Oden slows down the pace here.
Oden changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Mir fights it off and pushes away nicely.

and Mir counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Mir.
Oden pushes off an throws an elbow but Mir leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.

Mir manages to pull guard.

Mir had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Oden defends it easily.
Mir is trying to keep Oden in close.
Mir throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Mir tries to land a sweep but no joy.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Oden stops Mir from standing up.
Mir trying to keep a closed guard but Oden is proving a slippery customer.
Mir seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Mir looking to hit a scissor sweep but Oden is one step ahead there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mir is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Oden got a little sloppy there for a moment and Mir has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Oden has managed to get both his arms back between Mir's legs - danger averted.
Mir manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Oden manages to get himself to full guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Oden can do anything to dispel that myth.

Mir drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Oden manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Mir has Oden in his guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Oden seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Oden wants to control from the top but Mir keeps moving.
Oden looking to sit in guard and control but Mir gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Mir gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Frank Mir dominated that second round.
The cut man is working on Garrett Oden's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Oden shoots and misses
and Mir counters with a two punch combo.

Mir shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Oden's guard.
Mir is looking to work some ground and pound but Oden has wrist control.
Mir passes Oden's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Mir is looking to advance position but Oden won't allow it.
Mir tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Oden.
Oden won't allow Mir to pass to mount.
Frank Mir overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Oden takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Mir controlling the action here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Mir seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Mir prevents Oden from improving his position.

Mir seems to be working for a kimura but Oden defends the submission attempt.
Oden wants to control but Mir is keeping busy and won't allow it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Oden has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Mir.

Mir shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.

Oden is squirming around, avoiding Mir's attempts to control the action.

Mir is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Mir tries to control but Oden wriggling away.
Mir controlling the position easily from mount.
Mir has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Mir wants to finish this one by submission but Oden is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Mir.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Oden is in a horrible position here. Mir smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

And that's the end of the fight!
Frank Mir showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Mir has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
