PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Herbus Calzone (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Duke Richard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Calzone misses with the combination.
Calzone lands with a hook. Richard tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.

Calzone looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Calzone trying to advance position but Richard counters by regaining guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Calzone cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Calzone goes for an armbar but Richard turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Richard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Calzone lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Richard!

Calzone cracks Richard with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

Calzone throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Richard sees it coming and avoids it easily.

and Calzone connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Richard throws a shot from downtown. Calzone moves away and avoids it.
Calzone connects with a single shot there.
Richard slips under a jab.

and Calzone counters with a nice uppercut.
Calzone does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.

Calzone drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Calzone tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
Richard takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.

Calzone tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Calzone has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Calzone is looking to take a break and control but Richard is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Calzone tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Calzone swings around for an armbar but Richard sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Calzone's guard.
Calzone manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Richard manages to get himself to full guard.
Richard can't keep his opponent in guard - Calzone advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Calzone is trying to control the action in half guard but Richard is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Calzone will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Richard shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.

Calzone shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Calzone showed some decent athleticism there.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Calzone connects with a nice short shot to Richard's temple.

Richard is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Calzone jumps into side control!
