Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Walter Kovacs (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Willie Del Monte (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kovacs comes into the arena with All Along the watchtower - Jimmy Hendrix blaring out of the sound system. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Walter Kovacs!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Willie Del Monte!
The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, John Kavanagh and Reed Andrews.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Del Monte tries to clinch up but Kovacs circles away and keeps his distance.
Kovacs dodges the punch combination from Del Monte.

Del Monte gets caught flat footed, as Kovacs shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Kovacs postures up in Del Monte's guard and throws a big left but Del Monte blocks it.
Del Monte preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Del Monte is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Kovacs is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Del Monte is on top in guard.
Del Monte must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Kovacs looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kovacs bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Del Monte's guard.

Kovacs stands and steps away. Del Monte gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Del Monte wants to clinch.

Kovacs fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Del Monte sprawls well initially but Kovacs persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Kovacs is looking for a kimura but Del Monte is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Kovacs to get the leverage.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Del Monte is looking for a sweep. Kovacs is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Del Monte trying to control here.

Kovacs is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Del Monte looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Kovacs throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

Del Monte looking for submissions off his back.
Del Monte is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Kovacs jumps into side control!

Del Monte tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Kovacs wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Kovacs works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.

Kovacs wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Del Monte, who protects the arm well.
Kovacs throwing shots but missing, from side control.
Kovacs has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Del Monte tries to buck Kovacs off but Kovacs is having none of it.
Kovacs trying to control the position but Del Monte is working away.

Kovacs is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Del Monte looks calm but he's in trouble here. Kovacs gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Del Monte is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Kovacs lets go of the hold and Del Monte can pop his arm back in it's socket.
