PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Willy Cody (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack White (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). White is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by The White Stripes - Ball and Biscuit. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Willy Cody!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 1, fighting out of London, Jack White!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, James Glass and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
White rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Cody moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Cody uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by White.
Cody moves in looking to clinch but White pushes him off.
White fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Cody avoids it really well and circles away.
White chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Cody can pounce on him.
White avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Cody tries a head kick but it misses.
White stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Cody.

Excellent takedown into side control there by White.
White throwing strikes but missing, from side control.

White thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
White misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Cody is working to avoid the ground and pound but White connects with a decent elbow.
Cody tries to get back to half guard but can't.
White is looking to take a break and control but Cody is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Cody tries to escape but White is in control.
White postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
White trying to control the position but Cody is working away.
White in side control, throwing shots but Cody defends.
White looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Cody is avoiding damage well.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Cody tries to clinch but White is having none of it.

White closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Cody to the mat! Cody manages to get full guard.
White throws a big right hand that misses.
White throws and elbow that misses. Cody uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in White's guard. Nice move by Cody!
White has control of Cody's left arm, preventing Cody from doing any damage.

Cody decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on White, up you get!
Willy Cody is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Cody is looking to clinch but White is avoiding it.
Nice takedown defense from Cody. No joy for White on that attempt.
White shoots in for a takedown but Cody shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Willy Cody has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jack White.
Cody is looking to clinch but White is avoiding it.
Cody throws a head kick that White semi-blocks.


It looks like Jack White has been cut.
Cody tries to clinch up.
White has a takedown stuffed.

Cody clinches up against the cage.
Kneeeeees! The crowd are calling for knees to the body. Cody obliges.
White looks gassed!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Cody scores a nice knee to the body.
White drops down looking for an ankle pick but Cody pulls his leg out and moves away.
White keeps the fight on the outside.

White throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Cody was covering up waiting for the punch and White finishes the takedown easily into guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as White accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Cody keeping moving, preventing White from controlling successfully.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Willy Cody dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Jack White's cut.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Cody tries to clinch up but White circles away and keeps his distance.
Cody fails in his attempt to clinch.
White tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Cody swivels and escapes.
Cody slips a jab and a cross from White.
White closes the distance and clinches up with Cody, looking for a takedown. White pushes Cody against the cage but Cody circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
White throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Cody sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Cody is looking to clinch.
White avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Cody tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but White paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Cody takes a swing at White's ribcage but misses.
Willy Cody is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

White shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than White was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
White unloads with some shots from mount but Cody bucks and avoids them well.
White can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Cody is looking to escape.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Cody really wants to buck White off and get back to his feet.
White prevents Cody from getting the reversal.
White fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Cody avoids a strike by White and manages to complete a very nice reversal in the process, to end up in White's guard! Fantastic escape!
White looking to hit a scissor sweep but Cody is one step ahead there.
White lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Cody!

Cody avoids a series of strikes thrown by White.
White throwing shots from mount but they're not landing.
Cody is bucking up trying to escape but White cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Cody is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Cody is trying to stand up.
White lands with some strikes.
White throwing strikes here but Cody is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
White unloads with some shots from mount but Cody bucks and avoids them well.
White misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
White throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.
White lands a big shot there that rocks Cody but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
White lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
White lands a big elbow.
White is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Cody can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
White wants to control the pace but Cody is squirming around nicely.
White is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
White misses with a head shot.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jack White showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Cody throws a head kick that looked like it stung.

White drives through with a takedown into guard.
Cody working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from White.
Cody utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

White drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Cody manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now White has Cody in his guard.

White is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Cody defends well.
Cody controls from within his opponent's guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
White pulls Cody in close to prevent any damage.
Jack White has got the better of the ground game so far.
Cody would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Cody stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. White swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Cody stopping the sweep attempt from White.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
White is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
White keeping moving, preventing Cody from controlling successfully.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
White tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Cody was well out of range. Poor timing from White.
White avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Cody lands a head kick!

Cody takes a swing at White's ribcage but misses.
Cody takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Cody throws a head kick that half lands.
White swinging wildly here.
White moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
White fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Good standup being displayed there by White as he connects with a hook.

White scores a takedown into full mount!

White swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Cody is now in White's guard. A big mistake from White there, giving up the dominant position!
Cody wants to get up but he can't break White's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now White is on top in guard.
Cody is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Cody avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
White looking to pass the guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jack White comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think White has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
