PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ari Velazquez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rudy Perry (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Velazquez comes to the cage accompanied by DMX- We go hard. The key to victory for Ari Velazquez has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ari Velazquez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rudy Perry!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Cecil Peabody and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Velazquez throws a hook but Perry avoids it easily.

Perry shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Perry lands with a punch from half guard.
Velazquez desperately trying to maintain half guard.
Velazquez's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Perry is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Velazquez taking some punishment here, with Perry in his half guard.
Perry wants to pass to mount but Velazquez is defending the position.

Perry is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Velazquez is just riding it out for now. Perry eventually gives up the hold.
Perry throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Velazquez is pressing down on Perry's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Perry in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Perry trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Velazquez knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Perry on the ground.
Perry sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Velazquez's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Velazquez is looking to improve his position.

Perry is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Velazquez sees it coming and defends easily.

Perry is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Velazquez has managed to free his arm - good work.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Velazquez moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Velazquez will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Velazquez utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Perry postures up in Velazquez's guard and throws a big left but Velazquez blocks it.
Velazquez is trying to keep Perry in close.

Perry drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Perry jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Velazquez tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Perry drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Velazquez manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Perry has Velazquez in his guard.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Perry working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Velazquez doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Velazquez manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Velazquez avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rudy Perry dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Perry walks into a straight right hand from Velazquez.
Perry changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Velazquez tries to avoid it but Perry manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Velazquez to the ground. Velazquez escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Velazquez fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Velazquez throws a lazy right hand but Perry sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Ari Velazquez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Velazquez stuffs the takedown attempt from Perry. Perry gets slowly back to his feet.
Velazquez misses the jab.
Velazquez misses with a wild combination.
Velazquez throws a good cross that connects.
Velazquez loads up on a big right hand but Perry slips the punch.
Ari Velazquez is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Velazquez scores with a body shot.
Velazquez ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Perry moves away.
Velazquez throws a nice looking combination but Perry bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Perry is breathing heavily.
Velazquez misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Perry looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Ari Velazquez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rudy Perry.

Velazquez connects with a body shot.
A combination from Velazquez does no damage.
Velazquez throws a body punch but Perry moves out of range.
Perry shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Velazquez but Velazquez pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Velazquez fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Velazquez swings for the body but Perry moves out of range.
Velazquez rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Perry moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Perry is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Velazquez's half guard.
Perry thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Velazquez's head.
Perry is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Velazquez!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Perry landing strikes from the mount.
Perry has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Perry moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Velazquez has worked his arm free - good work by Velazquez!
Velazquez sneaks back into half guard.
Perry wants to pass the guard but Velazquez is defending well.
Velazquez keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Perry not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Perry moves into full mount! Velazquez won't be happy about that!
Perry looking to finish with strikes here!

Perry is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Velazquez has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Velazquez!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Perry working a defensive guard but Velazquez manages to pass into side control anyway.
Perry is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Velazquez slows the pace down in half guard.
Velazquez is looking to take a break and control but Perry is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Velazquez keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Perry uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Velazquez.

Velazquez thuds his right hand into Perry's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Velazquez throws a hook but Perry blocks it.
Velazquez is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.

Velazquez will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Perry is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Velazquez defends it well.

Perry has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Velazquez defend it? Perry steps over the head and cranks it - Velazquez is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Perry!
