PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Oba Martins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Andy Booth (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Booth has chosen Face the pain as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. There are an array of beautiful celebrities at ringside tonight! I wonder if any of them paid for their tickets.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Oba Martins!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Andy Booth!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Elvis Blanc and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Booth tries to clinch there but Martins circles away.
Martins uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Booth.
Booth tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Martins paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Martins gets caught flat footed, as Booth shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Martins escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Booth gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Martins looking for a guillotine here but Booth defends easily.

Martins is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Booth is aware though and is defending well.

Booth drops back looking for a leg! Martins is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Martins manages to kick Booth off! Booth jumps back into Martins's guard.
Booth wants to control from the top but Martins keeps moving.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Martins had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Booth defends it easily.
Booth is looking to stand up but Martins won't let him.
Booth postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Martins working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Booth doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Booth manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Martins is breathing heavily.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Martins is looking for a triangle but Booth pushes his legs off easily.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Booth's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Booth wants to control from the top but Martins keeps moving.

Booth decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Booth looks for a takedown but Martins sprawls well.
Martins moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.

Booth misses with a two punch combination.
Martins takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Booth shoots for a takedown but Martins saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Martins shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Martins showed some decent athleticism there.
Booth manages to get to full guard.
Booth keeping moving, preventing Martins from controlling successfully.

Martins pushing down on Booth's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Martins throwing shots but Booth is blocking nicely.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Martins takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Martins is pressing down on Booth's thigh, looking to free his foot. Booth is holding on for now.

Martins is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Booth scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Martins manages to mount him!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Martins has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Booth's face.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Oba Martins will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Booth shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Martins counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Martins loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Martins sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Booth's guard.
Martins passes to full mount!
Booth is squirming around, avoiding Martins's attempts to control the action.

Martins can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Booth is looking to escape.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Booth tries to lock up and control but Martins gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Martins with a couple of short strikes.
Booth bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Martins has his foot on Booth's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Booth works his way back into a safe position though.

Martins looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Oba Martins overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Booth stands and throws Martins's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Booth wants to control but Martins is keeping him busy.
Martins is looking to reverse the position.

Booth is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Martins has escaped the position, nice work there.

Booth tries for a kimura but Martins is defending well.

Martins tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Booth wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Booth is chipping away with strikes.
Booth working the head and body with strikes.
Martins manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

Booth is working for a kimura but Martins is defending it quite comfortably.
Booth wants to pass the guard but Martins is defending well.
Martins is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Booth's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Booth's back!
Booth is in a world of trouble here. He's outmatched on the ground here and he'd better get Martins off his back sharpish unless he wants to be submitted.

Martins scores with some strikes to the side of the head there. Good, points scoring shots.

Martins is persistently looking for the submission but Booth is defending it well.
Booth tries to roll but Martins sticks to his back.
Booth controlling the position well but he knows he's in a bad position.

Martins is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Booth knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Booth for a finish.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Booth looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.
Martins controls the action.

Booth rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.

Martins is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Booth is just riding it out for now. Martins eventually gives up the hold.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Oba Martins dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Booth has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Martins is working away from the top position though.
Martins throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Booth takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Martins uses his free foot to push down on Booth's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Booth.

Martins can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Booth is looking to escape.

Martins working from mount. He moves in close and looks like he might be going for an arm triangle... He's hopped off to the side and he's transitioned into an Anaconda choke. Booth turning a nasty shade of purple. He's refusing to tap but he's gone! He's out! The ref rips Martins off and cradles Booth's limp body as Martins celebrates with his corner.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:51 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Anaconda Choke). Oba Martins!
