PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Nathan Gould (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Paul Atrell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gould comes to the cage accompanied by skillet-monster. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Nathan Gould!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Paul Atrell!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Winston Howard and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gould swats away the attempt to clinch by Atrell.
Atrell throws a lazy right hand but Gould sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Atrell throws a head kick but Gould moves out of range.
Atrell fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Gould.
Atrell with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Atrell.
Atrell throws a head kick but Gould moves out of range.
Atrell lands with a thumping leg kick.
Gould will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Atrell lands a big head kick that sends Gould tumbling to the mat! Atrell takes a step backwards and waves Gould back to his feet - he wants the finish!


It looks like Nathan Gould has been cut.
Gould is breathing heavily.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Atrell has Gould up against the cage in a clinch.

Paul Atrell is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Atrell cracks Gould with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

Paul Atrell seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Atrell moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Gould chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Atrell can pounce on him.

Atrell has taken the fight to the clinch.
With the fighters up against the cage, Atrell throws an elbow but misses.
Atrell comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.
Gould is pressed up against the cage. Atrell has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Gould down to the mat. Gould avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Atrell lands a really nice looking cross but Gould seems unphased.

Atrell instigates a clinch.

Atrell escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Atrell moves into the clinch.

Atrell gets control of Gould's arms and successfully pulls guard. Atrell will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Atrell can do anything to dispel that myth.
Atrell is looking to stand up but Gould isn't so interested in that idea.

Gould drops back looking for a leg! Atrell is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Atrell manages to kick Gould off! Gould jumps back into Atrell's guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Atrell is looking to stand up but Gould isn't so interested in that idea.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Atrell clinches with his opponent.

Atrell lands a takedown into guard.

Gould has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Atrell can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Atrell forces Gould back against the cage and clinches.
Atrell tries a knee to the head but Gould blocks it.

Atrell breaks from the clinch.
Gould takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Gould will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Gould avoids the elbow strike from Atrell, against the cage.

Atrell pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage.

Atrell ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Atrell no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Atrell has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Gould drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Gould jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Atrell really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gould. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Atrell wants to stand and escape but Gould is having none of it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Atrell pulls Gould in to control the position.
Atrell wants to get back to his feet but Gould is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Atrell is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Gould looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Atrell fails with an attempt to clinch.

Atrell clinches up with Gould and pushes him back against the cage.
Atrell tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Gould avoids it.

Atrell manages to break the clinch.
Paul Atrell seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Gould takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Atrell keeps Gould at a distance using the push kick.
Gould tries to move into range but Atrell moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Atrell feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Gould's calf.

Atrell has Gould up against the cage in a clinch.

Atrell has clasped his hands together around Gould's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Atrell wants to stand but Gould is controlling his arm.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Paul Atrell showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's time! Gould's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Atrell lands a head kick. Gould smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
The fight stays on the outside here - Atrell looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Good leg kick by Atrell there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Atrell swings for the body but Gould moves out of range.
Gould fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Atrell lands a big head kick that sends Gould tumbling to the mat! Atrell takes a step backwards and waves Gould back to his feet - he wants the finish!


Gould is rocked!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Atrell closes the distance and clinches.
Oh Gould is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
A quick uppercut on the inside from Atrell.

Atrell jumps guard.
Gould seems to have got his legs back now.
Atrell looking for a sweep. Not yet Atrell, not yet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gould stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Atrell swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Atrell is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Gould thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Gould tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Gould tries for a takedown but Atrell manages to get underhooks.
Atrell throws a knee to the head but misses.

Atrell gets control of Gould's arms and successfully pulls guard. Atrell will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Gould thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Atrell looking to hit a scissor sweep but Gould is one step ahead there.
Atrell is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Gould is controlling him.
Gould tries to free his leg and advance position but Atrell is retaining full guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Gould won't allow Atrell to get back to his feet.

Gould is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Atrell gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Atrell jumps guard and drags Gould to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Well Atrell has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
