Gene fails in his attempt to clinch.
Gene fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Melendez manages to avoid it.
Melendez avoids a punch combination nicely.
Melendez shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Melendez is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Gene has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Melendez wants to finish this one by submission but Gene is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Melendez.
Melendez goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Gene turns into him and now he's in Melendez's guard.
Melendez has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Gene can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Gene is sitting in close to Melendez's body. Melendez has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Gene is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Gene is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Melendez.
