PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Daniel Pauling (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lem Sukaka (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lem Sukaka will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Daniel Pauling!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Lem Sukaka!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Donatello Bradman and Eliza Hachem.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Pauling pushes Sukaka up against the cage in a clinch.
Pauling doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Sukaka throws a knee to the head but misses.
Pauling fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Pauling tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Pauling tries to pull guard but Sukaka holds him up against the cage and eventually Pauling drops back down to his feet.

Sukaka tries a knee to the head but Pauling blocks it.

Sukaka throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Pauling blocks it with crossed arms.
Pauling jumps guard but Sukaka stands there with Pauling around his waist. Pauling gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Pauling has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Sukaka is trying to keep an underhook but Pauling manages to get the takedown into half guard.

Pauling is looking for a kimura but Sukaka is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Pauling to get the leverage.
Sukaka is not content to let Pauling control the position.

Pauling seems to be looking for submissions.
Pauling looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Sukaka with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Sukaka tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.

Pauling is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Pauling wants to lay and pray for a moment but Sukaka keeps working.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sukaka is not content to let Pauling control the position.
Pauling grinds an elbow into Sukaka's temple.

Sukaka manages to get back to half guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Pauling bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Sukaka's guard.
Pauling pushes down on Sukaka's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Pauling is trying to work for a kimura but Sukaka is defending well.

Pauling looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Pauling works his way into side control.
Sukaka is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Pauling's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Pauling stalling away here and it's allowed Sukaka to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

Pauling is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Pauling wants to control from the top but Sukaka keeps moving.
Sukaka looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Sukaka tries to land a knee to the head but Pauling blocks with his arms.

Sukaka stops a takedown attempt from Pauling.
Pauling manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.

Pauling is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Sukaka defends it well.

Sukaka is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Sukaka has hold of Pauling's hands but Pauling slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

Pauling is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Sukaka is just riding it out for now. Pauling eventually gives up the hold.

Pauling is keen to just control but Sukaka is a slippery customer.

Pauling is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Sukaka doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Pauling.
Pauling is stalling here. Sukaka is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Pauling seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Sukaka has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Sukaka must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Pauling has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Sukaka should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Pauling has tightened it up now! Sukaka should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
