Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between John Rice (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Doug DeSouza (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). DeSouza has chosen freedom as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. This should be fireworks!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Rice!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 7 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Doug DeSouza!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, George Francis and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
DeSouza tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Rice swivels and escapes.
A punch lands to the side of Rice 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Rice ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Rice is looking to clinch but DeSouza is avoiding it.
DeSouza avoids the head kick by Rice.
DeSouza keeps the fight on the outside.
Rice throws a right and a left that both miss.
Rice uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from DeSouza.
Rice rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but DeSouza moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
DeSouza's corner calls for a 1-2. DeSouza obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Rice throws a head kick but DeSouza moves out of range.
Rice misses with a series of wild punches.
DeSouza swats away the attempt to clinch by Rice.
DeSouza scores with a punch to the head.
Rice throws a head kick that misses.
DeSouza fails with the takedown.
Rice connects with a high kick.
Rice misses with a few strikes there.

DeSouza thows a left - swing and a miss!

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Rice tries to bum rush DeSouza with a series of wild strikes but DeSouza uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
DeSouza looks to land a right hand but Rice moved out of range.
DeSouza throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
DeSouza connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
DeSouza missing with a left hand there. Rice was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
A head kick misses from Rice.
DeSouza tests Rice's chin there with a solid looking shot.
DeSouza swings and misses with a hook to the body.
DeSouza might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
Rice throws a left and a right that both miss
and DeSouza counters with a stiff right hand.
Rice throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
DeSouza connects with a single shot there.

Rice takes the fight into the clinch.
Rice throws a punch but it's blocked by DeSouza.
DeSouza blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Rice misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from DeSouza.
DeSouza tries to score a body lock takedown but Rice shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Rice pushes DeSouza back against the cage and unloads with a body punch.

DeSouza breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

and Rice takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

so DeSouza counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
DeSouza looks gassed!
DeSouza wants to control from the top but Rice keeps moving.

Rice wants to get back to his feet but DeSouza is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells DeSouza's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
DeSouza trying to control but Rice is working from the bottom.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
DeSouza working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
DeSouza won't allow Rice to get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Rice moves out of range as DeSouza strikes.
Rice connects with a high kick.
Rice throws a right hand that DeSouza ducks under and follows up with a left that DeSouza also avoids with ease.
DeSouza throws a combination. Rice tries to block but a couple of punches get through.


It looks like John Rice has been cut.
DeSouza shoots in but no luck this time.
A big right from DeSouza misses.
DeSouza pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Rice closes the distance looking to clinch
and DeSouza counters with a nice body shot.
Rice tries to clinch but DeSouza moves out of range.
DeSouza stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.

Rice moves into the clinch.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Rice's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from DeSouza is defended easily by Rice.
Rice tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but DeSouza paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Rice moves in looking to clinch but DeSouza pushes him off.
Rice walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
DeSouza blocks a head kick by Rice.
Rice tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
DeSouza fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.

Rice tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. DeSouza manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

enabling DeSouza to counter with a crisp jab.

DeSouza feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
DeSouza postures up in Rice's guard and throws a big left but Rice blocks it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
DeSouza wants to control from the top but Rice keeps moving.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Doug DeSouza was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Rice closes the distance but DeSouza moves to the side
and DeSouza connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
DeSouza scores with a jab. Rice acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Rice avoids the body shot from DeSouza.
Rice misses with a wild combination.
Rice tries to clinch there but DeSouza circles away.
DeSouza lands a body shot.
DeSouza throws out a loose jab but Rice uses good head movement to avoid it.

DeSouza looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

DeSouza throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
DeSouza fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

With the fighters clinched against the cage, Rice creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.

DeSouza is rocked!


It looks like Doug DeSouza has been cut.
DeSouza has Rice pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Rice manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
DeSouza is still on wobbly legs! Can Rice finish him?

Clinched against the cage, Rice lands a big elbow that drops DeSouza! The ref dives in to save him from more shots - DeSouza is complaining that he's OK but he was done.
