PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Arik Cannon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Forrest Griffin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cannon comes to the ring accompanied by Junkie Man - Rancid. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Arik Cannon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Forrest Griffin!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Eliza Hachem and Bruno Hogan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Griffin keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Cannon scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Cannon is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Cannon is looking for a kimura but Griffin is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Cannon to get the leverage.
Cannon content to control rather than advance.
Griffin is refusing to be controlled, as Cannon sits in half guard.
Cannon keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.

Cannon wants to work for an arm triangle but Griffin is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Cannon is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Cannon is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Cannon seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Griffin does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Arik Cannon.

Cannon darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Cannon is looking for a kimura here.
Cannon wants to lay and pray for a moment but Griffin keeps working.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Arik Cannon dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Griffin doesn't succeed with the takedown
enabling Cannon to counter with a crisp jab.

Cannon looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Griffin!

Cannon jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Griffin is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Griffin and Cannon has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Cannon tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Cannon has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Cannon is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Griffin has escaped the position, nice work there.

Griffin is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Cannon is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Griffin doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Cannon.

Cannon is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Griffin is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
