PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Logan Strauss (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lee Mtagwa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Strauss's entrance music is Immigrant song-Led Zeppelin. A fine choice. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Logan Strauss!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 5 - 3, fighting out of Los Angeles, Lee Mtagwa!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Strauss shoots in but no luck this time.
Mtagwa lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Mtagwa stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Mtagwa wants it to stay on the feet.
Strauss fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Logan Strauss. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Mtagwa takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Strauss misses with a series of wild punches.
Strauss shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Mtagwa but Mtagwa pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Strauss is breathing heavily.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Mtagwa looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Strauss tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Mtagwa swivels and escapes.
Mtagwa rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Strauss moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Mtagwa uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Strauss has time to react.
Mtagwa fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Strauss on the side of the head.
This is turning into a torrid day at the office for Strauss. He's trying desperately to land a takedown but he's failing miserably and getting slapped silly on the feet to compound his misery.
Strauss takes a shot right to the bread basket.

Mtagwa throws a combination that misses

and Strauss counters with a shoot takedown. Mtagwa fights it but they end up in guard.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Mtagwa seems keen to control Strauss's posture.
Mtagwa is looking to stand up but Strauss isn't so interested in that idea.
Mtagwa is pulling down on Strauss's head. It's preventing any offense from Strauss, at least for the moment.

Strauss is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Mtagwa is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Mtagwa has escaped and now he's on top!
Mtagwa seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Mtagwa slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Strauss tries to contro but end up mounted... ooooh, that's bad.
Strauss tries to hold on but Mtagwa postures up.
Strauss tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Strauss manages to regain half guard. Good work.

The fighters are battling for position here. Strauss manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Strauss is looking for a triangle but Mtagwa pushes his legs off easily.

Strauss working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Mtagwa doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Mtagwa manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Strauss looking for a guillotine here but Mtagwa defends easily.

Strauss looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Mtagwa is looking to stand up but Strauss won't let him.

Strauss has his foot on Mtagwa's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Mtagwa works his way back into a safe position though.
Mtagwa really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Strauss. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Mtagwa got a little sloppy there for a moment and Strauss has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Mtagwa has managed to get both his arms back between Strauss's legs - danger averted.

Strauss is looking for a triangle here but Mtagwa uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lee Mtagwa dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Strauss moves out of range as Mtagwa strikes.
Strauss is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Mtagwa.
Strauss changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Mtagwa tries to avoid it but Strauss manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Mtagwa to the ground. Mtagwa escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Strauss shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Mtagwa but Mtagwa pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Mtagwa takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.

and Strauss counters with a nice double leg into side control. Mtagwa won't be happy with that.

Strauss wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Mtagwa, who protects the arm well.

Strauss is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Mtagwa knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Mtagwa avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Strauss.

Strauss tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Strauss has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Mtagwa is not content to let Strauss control the position.

Strauss tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Strauss has an Americana. Mtagwa didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Strauss is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Strauss hooks up with any of them at the after show party.
