PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Paul Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Also Zarathustra (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Zarathustra has chosen I Against I as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Paul Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Also Zarathustra!
The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Luis Engracia and Seu Braga.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones takes a body punch but keeps moving.
The fighters circling - Jones throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Jones moves out of range as Zarathustra strikes.
Jones looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Horrible takedown by Jones or perhaps it was just good defense by Zarathustra which made him look bad.
No luck for Jones with that takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Paul Jones. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Zarathustra scores with a hook.
Jones closes this distance looking for a takedown but Zarathustra circles away.
Nice defenses there by Jones.
Zarathustra misses the shot to the body.
Zarathustra throws a big shot that misses.
Jones takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Jones shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Zarathustra sprawls well. Zarathustra wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Jones gets slowly back to his feet.
Zarathustra scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.

Jones is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Zarathustra's half guard.
Jones wants to lay and pray for a moment but Zarathustra keeps working.

Jones is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Zarathustra has managed to free his arm - good work.

Jones is working for an americana but Zarathustra has been sneaky and has managed to get back to half guard, whilst Jones was thinking about the submission.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Jones drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Zarathustra dives on top into guard.

Jones working for a triangle but Zarathustra defends it easily.
Zarathustra is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Zarathustra trying to control but Jones is working from the bottom.
Zarathustra passes into half guard.
Jones wants to control but Zarathustra is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Zarathustra seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Zarathustra is trying to control. Jones wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Zarathustra is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Zarathustra can't control as he wanted to and Jones manages to get the fight back to his half guard.
Zarathustra wants to free his trapped foot but Jones is holding on for dear life with his legs.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Also Zarathustra dominated that round.
That's time! Jones's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Jones tries to score a power double leg takedown but Zarathustra sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Jones somewhat.
Zarathustra swings for the body but Jones moves out of range.
Jones takes a jab right on the kisser.
Jones shoots in for a takedown but Zarathustra shows good takedown defense.
Zarathustra lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
A looping hook to the body misses from Zarathustra. Jones does a little dance to reset his feet.
Zarathustra lands with a straight right. Jones didn't see that one coming.
Zarathustra lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
A big left from Zarathustra misses.
Jones dives in and grabs Zarathustra's left leg, looking for a takedown. Zarathustra pushes down on Jones's head and hops out.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Paul Jones. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Jones changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Zarathustra tries to avoid it but Jones manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Zarathustra to the ground. Zarathustra escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Jones tries for a takedown but Zarathustra sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Jones uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Zarathustra.
Zarathustra sizes up Jones with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.


Jones is rocked!
A telegraphed right hand from Zarathustra misses the target.
Oh Jones is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Zarathustra throws a jab but it's blocked by Jones.
Zarathustra misses the jab.
Also Zarathustra is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Jones ducks under a wild hook from Zarathustra.
Zarathustra lands with a jab that stuns his opponent. Jones is looking to close the distance but Zarathustra sees it coming and throws a beautiful knee! Jones crumbles to the mat and that's all she wrote! Let's hope Jones is OK because that was naaaaaasty!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:34 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Knee). Also Zarathustra!
