PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Yuri Orlov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ricky Dryupp (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Yuri Orlov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Ricky Dryupp!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Eliza Hachem and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Orlov takes a swing at Dryupp's ribcage but misses.
Dryupp throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Orlov stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Dryupp misses with a takedown attempt - Orlov sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Orlov fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Dryupp trying to control but Orlov is working from the bottom.
Dryupp postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Dryupp is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Dryupp wants to control from the top but Orlov keeps moving.

Dryupp got a little sloppy there for a moment and Orlov has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Dryupp has managed to get both his arms back between Orlov's legs - danger averted.

Orlov is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Dryupp working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Orlov has his foot on Dryupp's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Dryupp works his way back into a safe position though.
Dryupp passes Orlov's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Dryupp is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Orlov is just riding it out for now. Dryupp eventually gives up the hold.
Orlov tries to roll over but Dryupp keeps him under control.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Dryupp is keen to just control but Orlov is a slippery customer.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Orlov feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Orlov drops back looking for a leg! Dryupp is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Dryupp manages to kick Orlov off! Orlov jumps back into Dryupp's guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Dryupp has one foot on Orlov's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.

and Orlov counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Dryupp's guard now.

Dryupp is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Orlov is aware though and is defending well.

Dryupp wants to control but Orlov is keeping busy and won't allow it.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Orlov lands a nice short elbow.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Orlov looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Orlov is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Dryupp defends it well.

Yuri Orlov dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Dryupp shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Orlov's guard.
Dryupp passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Dryupp tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Dryupp has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
You can see the frustration on Orlov's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Orlov drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Orlov jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Orlov stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Dryupp swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Dryupp looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

A close second round but Ricky Dryupp will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!



Orlov gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Dryupp to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Dryupp loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Orlov has his feet on Dryupp's thighs here. He's pushed Dryupp off and worked for a very quick armbar from the bottom! He's flipped onto his stomach and he's cranking hard on the arm! Dryupp screams in pain and taps out! This one is all over!
