PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Shine Krest (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Greg Denai (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Denai has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Greg Denai is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Shine Krest!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Greg Denai!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Donatello Bradman and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Krest shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Denai looks gassed!
Krest wants to control but Denai is keeping him busy.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Krest thows a huge punch but Denai dodges it nicely.
Krest wants to take a breather but Denai is having none of it.
Krest looks to land a strike but Denai avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
Denai keeping moving, preventing Krest from controlling successfully.
Krest is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Denai is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Krest stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Greg Denai seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Krest wants to clinch.
Krest fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Denai manages to avoid it.
Denai looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Krest throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Denai.

Krest fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Denai, pushing him back against the cage.
Denai stalling in the clinch but Krest improves position.
Krest tries for a takedown. No joy.
Krest could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Krest drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Denai gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Krest manages to pull guard.
Krest wants to stand but Denai is controlling the position.
Krest on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Krest tries to get out of the position.
Krest is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Denai trying to hold on to Krest's head to control him but Krest postures up.
Krest is keen to just control but Denai is a slippery customer.
Krest sitting and controlling from the half guard.
Krest has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Krest lands a nice short elbow.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Krest is trying to control the action in half guard but Denai is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Krest thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Shine Krest.
Krest looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Shine Krest. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Krest shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Denai but Denai pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Denai throws the kick towards the body but Krest avoids it.

Denai avoids a punch combination nicely.
Krest blocks the body kick.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Krest takes the fight into the clinch.

Krest's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Denai throws a wild body kick that Krest sees coming a mile off.
Krest moves out of range as Denai throws a body kick.
Krest lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Denai circles away quickly and effectively.
Krest sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
Denai stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Denai wants it to stay on the feet.
Denai lands with a kick to the ribs.

Krest moves into the clinch.

Krest jumps guard and drags Denai to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Krest looking to control.

Krest is looking for a triangle but Denai pushes his legs off easily.
Krest is looking to stand up but Denai isn't so interested in that idea.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Shine Krest dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Krest tries to clinch up.
Denai throws the kick towards the body but Krest avoids it.
Krest wants to clinch up but Denai keeps it at a distance.
Krest shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Denai but Denai pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Denai slaps away a takedown attempt from Krest, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Krest shoots for a takedown but Denai saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Shine Krest. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Krest throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Denai does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Shine Krest is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Krest is looking to clinch.
Denai stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Denai wants it to stay on the feet.
Denai is breathing heavily.
Krest misses with a jab, cross combination.
Denai throws a quick inside leg kick.

Denai tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Denai lands a front kick.
Denai stuffs the takedown.
Krest throws a right and a left that Denai avoids nicely.

Krest throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Denai was covering up waiting for the punch and Krest finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Krest thows a big elbow that misses.
Krest has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Krest passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Krest controlling the position from side mount.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Krest in side control, throwing shots but Denai defends.

Krest decides to stand back up. Krest steps back and let's Denai get back to his feet.

Krest closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Denai did well to prevent Krest getting side control.
Krest trying to mount his opponent but Denai defends it.
Denai is not content to let Krest control the position.
Krest is looking to advance position but Denai won't allow it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Krest looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Denai with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Krest passes to side control.
Krest trying to control the action but Denai is working from the bottom.
Krest throws a strike aimed at the side of Denai's head but Denai avoids it well.

Krest has an Americana. Denai didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Krest is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Krest hooks up with any of them at the after show party.
