PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Duke Hargon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dan Trejo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hargon has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Duke Hargon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Dan Trejo!
The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Patrick Alders and Nard Betker.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hargon shoots in and drives through. Trejo sprawls well.

Trejo shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Hargon is trying to defend but Trejo finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Trejo is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Hargon defends it well.
Hargon is not content to let Trejo control the position.
Trejo controlling the action here.
Let's hope that Trejo has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Hargon on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Hargon tries to get out of the position.
Hargon is breathing heavily.

Hargon has hold of Trejo's hands but Trejo slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Hargon trying to hold on to Trejo's head to control him but Trejo postures up.

Trejo is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Trejo is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Trejo thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Hargon's head.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Hargon moves into full guard.

Hargon is looking for a triangle but Trejo pushes his legs off easily.
Trejo scoring with punches to the head and body.
Trejo trying to control but Hargon is working from the bottom.
Trejo slips nicely into half guard.
Trejo passes into side control, despite Hargon's attempt to control the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Trejo tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Trejo works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.

Trejo decides to stand back up. Trejo steps back and let's Hargon get back to his feet.

Trejo feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Trejo slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Trejo content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Hargon is looking to regain half guard here but Trejo keeps moving and retains side control.

Trejo decides to stand up, so the ref orders Hargon to his feet.

Trejo shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Trejo was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Hargon knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Trejo on the ground.

Trejo has control of Hargon's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Hargon regains control of the situation pretty easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dan Trejo dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Trejo shoots for a takedown but Hargon saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Hargon lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Hargon.

Hargon gets caught flat footed, as Trejo shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Trejo is stalling in the full guard.
Trejo missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Trejo trying to control but Hargon is working from the bottom.

Trejo drops back, looking for a kneebar! Hargon looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Hargon looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Hargon!
Trejo is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Hargon is controlling him well.
Hargon will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Trejo gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

Hargon is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Trejo sees it coming and defends easily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Trejo desperately trying to maintain half guard.
Well, if Hargon is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Hargon is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Trejo manages to escape and get back to his feet!

Trejo shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Hargon counters with a takedown into side control.
Trejo stops Hargon from passing to mount.
Hargon lands an elbow.
Trejo tries to improve position but can't.
You can see the frustration on Trejo's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Trejo tries to control the position but he's not in luck - Hargon easily slips into full mount!
Hargon scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Trejo?
Trejo sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Trejo pushes Hargon off looking to stand but Hargon dives back in and keeps control.
Dan Trejo has got the better of the ground game so far.
Trejo gets full guard.
Hargon trying to control the position from guard on top but Trejo is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Duke Hargon will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!


Hargon doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Trejo counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Trejo gets to his feet. Hargon looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Trejo displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Hargon.

and Trejo counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Trejo.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Duke Hargon. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Trejo content to slow the pace in the clinch.
Trejo has Hargon pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Hargon manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Hargon tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Trejo stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.

Hargon won't allow Trejo to get back to his feet.

Trejo tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Trejo escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Hargon gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Trejo throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Trejo shoots in looking for a takedown. Hargon tries to sprawl out of it but Trejo keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Hargon manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Trejo throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.

Trejo shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Hargon napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Hargon is looking for a sweep.

Trejo decides to stand back up. Trejo steps back and let's Hargon get back to his feet.

Hargon is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.

Trejo breaks from the clinch.
Hargon is looking to clinch.

Trejo shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Trejo showed some decent athleticism there.
Trejo wants to take a breather but Hargon is having none of it.
Trejo might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Hargon kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Dan Trejo comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Trejo has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
