PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between David Apolskis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Carlos de Souza (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Apolskis comes to the cage accompanied by Like a G6. de Souza comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Brazil is Calling kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, David Apolskis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Carlos de Souza!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Gregory Folan and Dillan Fox.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Apolskis shoots in for a takedown but de Souza shows good takedown defense.
Apolskis walks into a stiff left hand from de Souza.

Apolskis darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
de Souza is trying to stand up here but Apolskis is controlling him well.

de Souza is defending against the submission attempts here by Apolskis.
de Souza is trying to stand up here but Apolskis is controlling him well.
Apolskis is trying to control the action in half guard but de Souza is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
A left and a right from de Souza both land. Nice combination.
de Souza scores with a hook.

Apolskis scores with a takedown into de Souza's guard.
de Souza is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Apolskis is controlling him.
Apolskis trying to control but de Souza is working from the bottom.

Apolskis drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Apolskis jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
de Souza is looking to stand up but Apolskis isn't so interested in that idea.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Apolskis shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Apolskis is working for a kimura but de Souza is defending it quite comfortably.
de Souza is trying to stand up here but Apolskis is controlling him well.

Apolskis is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
de Souza looks like he's trying to stand up.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Apolskis closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Apolskis is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. de Souza knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Apolskis is breathing heavily.
Apolskis trying to control the position but de Souza is working away.

de Souza is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Apolskis has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Apolskis wants to lay and pray for a moment but de Souza keeps working.

de Souza throws Apolskis to one side and escapes!
de Souza lands a glancing blow to the side of Apolskis's head.
de Souza looks to land a combination. Apolskis sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Apolskis shoots in for a takedown but de Souza shows good takedown defense.
de Souza misses with a jab, cross combination.
de Souza tries to bum rush Apolskis with a series of wild strikes but Apolskis uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Apolskis with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling de Souza to score with a decent uppercut.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Carlos de Souza dominated that round.
That's time! Apolskis's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


de Souza swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Nice sprawl there from de Souza as Apolskis shoots in.
de Souza fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
de Souza connects with the punch.
Apolskis shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says de Souza as he avoids it easily.
Apolskis shoots for a takedown but de Souza saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for David Apolskis. That's going to take a lot out of him.
de Souza moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
de Souza digs a good hook to Apolskis's body.
Carlos de Souza seems to be getting the better of the standup.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

de Souza lands a left and a right that send Apolskis crashing to the mat, dazed. de Souza thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!


Apolskis is rocked!
David Apolskis is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
de Souza darts in and lands a big hook, right on the button! Apolskis's legs crumble underneath him as he falls to the canvas! The ref tackles de Souza before he gets to land any more shots to his stricken foe.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:35 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Carlos de Souza!
