PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Yasegawa Masaki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sung Kim (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Yasegawa Masaki!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Sung Kim!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Winston Howard and Skip Squint.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kim swinging wildly here.
Masaki blocks a head kick by Kim.
Yasegawa Masaki seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Nice takedown defense from Kim. No joy for Masaki on that attempt.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Kim.
Kim lands with a kick to the ribs.
Kim scores with a jab. Masaki acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Masaki shoots and misses
and Kim finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body.
Kim fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Masaki shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Kim is trying to escape the mount.
Kim wants to hold on but Masaki pushes him away.

Kim is wriggling around trying to escape.
Masaki avoids the attempt from Kim to control.
Kim is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Kim slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Kim is trying to stand back up but Masaki is controlling him

You can see the frustration on Kim's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Kim manages to work his way to half guard, despite Masaki's best efforts.

Kim is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Masaki is staying active.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Sung Kim will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


A kick lands to the mid section there for Kim.
Masaki tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Kim swivels and escapes.

Kim clinches up with Masaki and pushes him back against the cage.

Kim breaks from the clinch.
Kim scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
No joy there for Kim, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Kim doesn't manage to clinch there - Masaki circles away.
Kim throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Kim rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Masaki moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Masaki misses with a wild body shot.
Kim scores with a nice right hand.
Kim fails in his attempt to clinch.

Masaki shoots in looking for a takedown. Kim tries to sprawl out of it but Masaki keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Kim manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Kim lands a jab to Masaki's midsection.
Kim throws a right and a left that Masaki avoids nicely.

Masaki closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Kim wants to get back to his feet.

Masaki postures up.
Masaki is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Kim had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Masaki defends it easily.

Kim wants to sweep here but Masaki controlling him for the moment.
Kim bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Masaki's guard.
Masaki knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Kim on the ground.
Kim won't allow Masaki to sweep him here.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Kim is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Kim seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Sung Kim showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Kim lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Kim.
Kim displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Masaki.

Masaki changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Kim looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Kim is not content to let Masaki control the position.
Kim tries to buck Masaki off but Masaki is having none of it.
Masaki wants to lay and pray for a moment but Kim keeps working.

Kim struggling a bit here.
Masaki is looking to take a break and control but Kim is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Masaki in side control, just content to control the action for now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Kim sneaks back into half guard.
Kim is trying to maintain the position but Masaki is very close to passing his half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kim trying to get back to full guard but Masaki takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount!
Kim tries to lock up and control but Masaki gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Masaki tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

You get the feeling that Kim really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Sung Kim is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Kim wants to hold on but Masaki pushes him away.

And that's the end of the fight!
Yasegawa Masaki showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Kim has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
