PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Ezra Gayumba (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Andy Pain (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pain has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Andy Pain has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ezra Gayumba!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Andy Pain!
The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Hirohito Nitta and Shigeki Sano.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pain tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Gayumba swivels and escapes.
Pain looks gassed!

Gayumba wants to pass the guard but Pain is keeping the position.
Gayumba would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Pain is working an open guard so Gayumba takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Gayumba clinches.
Gayumba lands a nice shot to the body.

Gayumba manages to break the clinch.

Gayumba has closed the distance and engaged Pain in a clinch.

Gayumba escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Gayumba bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Pain is trying to escape the position but Gayumba is controlling the position.

Gayumba tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Gayumba has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Gayumba stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Gayumba moves into the clinch.

Gayumba breaks the clinch.

Gayumba shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Gayumba really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Gayumba remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Gayumba's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Pain takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Gayumba knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Pain on the ground.

Gayumba decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Gayumba looks to land a combination. Pain sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.

and Gayumba counters with a body kick that stops Pain in his tracks momentarily.
Gayumba shoots for a double leg takedown but Pain sprawls well. He's pushed Gayumba's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ezra Gayumba dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Pain gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Gayumba counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Still in half guard, Gayumba seems content to control.

Gayumba stands up and beckons Pain to join him on the feet.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Painis looking to pass into half guard but Gayumba pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Gayumba is in guard.
Gayumba seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Pain shoots and misses
and Gayumba counters with a body kick that brings a smile to the face of both fighters.
Ezra Gayumba has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Andy Pain.
Pain has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.

Gayumba drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Gayumba wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Pain, who protects the arm well.
Pain gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

Gayumba is working for a submission of some sort.
Pain won't allow Gayumba to pass to mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ezra Gayumba dominated that second round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Pain misses with a takedown attempt

and Gayumba decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Pain's guard.
Gayumba not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Gayumba seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Pain for as long as he can get away with.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Pain is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Gayumba makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Pain looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Gayumba puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

Pain looking for submissions from an awkward position here.

Gayumba is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Gayumba is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Pain doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Gayumba.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Gayumba tries to stand and escape but Pain is controlling the position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Pain wants to control but Gayumba is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Ezra Gayumba showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Gayumba has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
