PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Brett James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Manson Dixon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Manson Dixon is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Brett James!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 1, fighting out of London, Manson Dixon!
The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Chris Edwards and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
James connects with a good right hand that stumbles Dixon. Dixon circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Dixon throws a right hand that James ducks under and follows up with a left that James also avoids with ease.
James swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
enabling Dixon to counter with a crisp jab.
James tries to close the distance and clinch up but Dixon swats him away and circles back towards the center.
James misses with a double jab
and Dixon counters with a right hand to the body.
James tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Dixon counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Dixon.

James is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Dixon defends well.
Dixon wants to get up but he can't break James's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Dixon stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. James swivels though and keeps the full guard.

James wants to sweep here but Dixon controlling him for the moment.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as James holds on and takes a little breather.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Dixon dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Dixon misses with a jab, cross combination.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Dixon defends well against a solid takedown attempt from James.
James looks for a takedown but Dixon sprawls well.
James cracks Dixon with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.

Dixon closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.

James lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
James is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

and James counters with a three punch combo that has Dixon backing up. Dixon nods at James to acknowledge the strikes.
James clinches but Dixon breaks the clinch
and Dixon counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
James clobbers Dixon with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
James tries a head kick but it misses.
James throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Dixon throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
James fails with the takedown.

Dixon slips a jab and a cross from James.

Dixon throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

and Dixon moves into the clinch.

James breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
James tries a head kick but it misses.
James tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Dixon paws at him with a jab and circles away.
James rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Dixon moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

The crowd cheers as James lands an impressive looking overhand right. Dixon doesn't seem phased though.
This has been an exciting period of action!
James moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
James throws a one two combo.
James throws a series of strikes that have Dixon backpedaling.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
James slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
James displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.
James stalks Dixon and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Dixon's face. Dixon staggers backwards, shaken.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! James's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Dixon takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
James lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.

James throws a series of punches but Dixon avoids them all with ease.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
and Dixon counters with a lovely shot to the body.
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting James here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.
Dixon will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
James bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Dixon moves forwards but James connects with a nice, crisp jab.
James lands with a good body shot.
No joy there for James, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Dixon is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down James rather than just go for the knockout.

and Dixon counters with a nice double leg into guard.

James manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Dixon manages to get himself to full guard.

Manson Dixon has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Well I reckon that's a shut out for James, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
