PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Richie Mancha (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lewis Jackel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jackel has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Richie Mancha!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Lewis Jackel!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Skip Squint and Winston Howard.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mancha moves into the clinch.
Mancha drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Jackel gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Jackel looking for a takedown.

Mancha breaks from the clinch.
Mancha shoots in looking for a takedown. Jackel tries to sprawl out of it but Mancha keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Jackel manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Mancha circles away from the clinch attempt.

Mancha drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Jackel throws Mancha to one side and escapes!
Jackel looks gassed!

Mancha scores with a takedown into Jackel's guard.
Mancha controlling from the top position.

Mancha gets to his feet. Jackel looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Richie Mancha seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Mancha has taken the fight to the clinch.
Mancha wants a takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Richie Mancha. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Mancha has picked Jackel up - he's going for a ride! Mancha dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Jackel is looking for a sweep. Mancha is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Jackel pushes Mancha off looking to stand but Mancha dives back in and keeps control.

Jackel looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Mancha stalling.

Mancha is working for a kimura but Jackel is defending it quite comfortably.

Mancha decides to stand and escape the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Mancha shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Jackel pinned against the cage. Jackel gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Jackel moves into range and clinches up with Mancha.

Jackel escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Mancha feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Mancha drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Jackel dives on top into guard.
Jackel trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Mancha is trying to control the position but Jackel postures up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Jackel wants to get up but he can't break Mancha's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Mancha is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Jackel is controlling him.
Jackel trying to control the position from guard on top but Mancha is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Jackel stands up and waves to Mancha to follow him.
Mancha moves out of range of the body kick.
Mancha stuffs the takedown attempt from Jackel. Jackel gets slowly back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Richie Mancha dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Jackel throws a half hearted mid kick.

Mancha drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Mancha thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Mancha controlling from side mount.
Jackel tries to improve position but can't.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Jackel is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Mancha has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Jackel wants to control but Mancha postures up.
Jackel manages to work his way to half guard, despite Mancha's best efforts.

Jackel is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Mancha pulls his head out easily.
Mancha has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Jackel can't escape the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Jackel tries to hold on but Mancha postures up.

Mancha goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Jackel turns into him and now he's in Mancha's guard.
Jackel trying to stand up but can't free himself from Mancha's guard.

Mancha pushes Jackel off and scrambles back to his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Jackel looks to land a body kick but Mancha moved away.
Jackel avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Mancha wants to clinch

and Jackel counters with a shoot takedown. Mancha fights it but they end up in guard.
Richie Mancha overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Mancha is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

Jackel is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Mancha is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Mancha has escaped and now he's on top!
Mancha passes Jackel's left leg - he's now in half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Jackel looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Jackel is trying to maintain the position but Mancha is very close to passing his half guard.
Mancha perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Lewis Jackel will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Jackel tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Mancha gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Jackel counters with a good low kick that Mancha was not able to check.
Richie Mancha is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Jackel takes a kick to the body and keeps moving.

Mancha shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Mancha gets to his feet - Jackel follows without any prompting.
Mancha has his takedown stuffed

and Jackel counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Jackel trying to control but Mancha is working from the bottom.
Jackel postures up.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Jackel is stalling in the full guard.
Mancha keeping moving, preventing Jackel from controlling successfully.
Jackel tries to free his leg and advance position but Mancha is retaining full guard.

Mancha working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Jackel has passed into half guard!
Mancha is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Jackel throwing shots but Mancha is blocking nicely.

Jackel is working for a kimura but Mancha is defending it quite comfortably.
Mancha trying to control here.
Jackel is stalling here. Mancha is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Jackel seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Mancha has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Jackel is looking for a sweep.
Mancha happy to just control the position for now.
Jackel tries to bench press Mancha off him but Mancha keeps the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Mancha works to advance to full mount. Jackel defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
Mancha tries to control but Jackel wriggling away.
Jackel regains half guard.
Mancha thows a big elbow that misses, also allowing Jackel to regain full guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Lewis Jackel comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Jackel has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
