Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Rex Garris!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, max mentos!
The judges for this bout are , Timothy Bukovac and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Garris tries to clinch there but mentos circles away.
Garris throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around mentos's waist but mentos gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Garris off to one side.

Garris decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Garris is working for a kimura but mentos is defending it quite comfortably.
Garris not landing any meaningful shots this time.
mentos lands with a few short shots to the body.
mentos manages to get to full guard.
mentos is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

mentos is pressing down on Garris's thigh, looking to free his foot. Garris is holding on for now.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Garris scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Garris knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for mentos on the ground.
mentos is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
mentos is looking to control Garris's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can mentos avoid being mounted?

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
mentos tries to roll over but Garris keeps him under control.

Garris has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Garris clinches.
Garris using the Thai plumb to throw knees but mentos has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.

Garris rushes mentos and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

mentos slips nicely into half guard.

mentos wants to stand up but Garris has a hold of him and won't allow it.
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Garris here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.
The fighters are battling for position here. Garris manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
mentos is looking to work some ground and pound but Garris has wrist control.

mentos wants to stand and escape but instead Garris has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Garris decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on mentos, up you get!
Garris feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to mentos's calf.
Garris misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
mentos dives in and grabs Garris's left leg, looking for a takedown. Garris pushes down on mentos's head and hops out.
Garris is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

mentos tries for a kimura but Garris is defending well.

mentos is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Garris is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Garris dodges the ground and pound from mentos.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
mentos throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Garris tries to buck mentos off but mentos is having none of it.
Garris is not content to let mentos control the position.
Rex Garris overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Garris is looking to reverse the position.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Garris shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has mentos pinned against the cage. mentos gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Rex Garris. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Garris blocks the body kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Rex Garris will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Rex Garris is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Garris is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down mentos's shoulder. That is not cool.
mentos tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Garris wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Garris is staying tight to mentos's torso, preventing him from escaping.
mentos wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Garris tries to advance to mount but can't.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
mentos can't do much from the bottom here.

mentos being controlled for a moment.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Rex Garris.

mentos gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

mentos has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Garris can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Garris has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

mentos throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
mentos is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Garris is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

max mentos has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Well Garris has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
